I have just mentioned the Sellafield shutdown in my weather forum because it was apparently weather conditions which caused the shutdown.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17&start=770

In all the years I have been studying and reporting on the weather I cannot ever recall a major power station being shut down on such a flimsy excuse. Didcot A Power station was also officially closed at 2pm today although that was a long planned closure.

2 power stations in one day ( one planned, one not ) suggests a rather worrying trend.

The BBC are saying over 8000 persons work at Sellafield and the weather is bad up in Cumbria. Maybe they need a certain headcount on duty before they can operate safely and may have gone to shut down as a contingency in case insufficient people can get to work because of the weather.

I don't think this would be the case. If the new shift can't get in. Then the old shift can't get out. As for hours worked. There whould be emergency measure, that can be put in place.

Sellafield no longer produces electricity. It is a nuclear waste processing plant, where they process nuclear waste from nuclear power stations, nuclear powered ships, etc. It is possible that in these hyper-safety-conscious times a 'safe holding state' has been declared because of difficulty in staff travelling about. It could also mean that the authorities are taking advantage of the weather to carry out a 'dummy run' for a state of emergency.

On the other hand, the word 'nuclear' conjurers up all kinds of fears in the minds of the Press, media, and the public; and if the authorities were wanting to raise the public's fear levels then a nuclear story is almost a guaranteed success. At this point in time I would regard the Sellafield story as nothing more than a cautionary safety procedure. If the Sellafield story receives full and extensive media coverage, then I would suspect a scare attempt on behalf of the authorities – until then I would disregard it.

It should becoming clear, even for the most ardent believer in man-made global warming, that global warming isn't the threat the politicians and their agent provocateurs claimed it was.

CO2 levels in the atmosphere continue to rise, and yet the global temperatures are reducing. The media are currently telling us that we are experiencing the coldest March for FIFTY years. This current cold and snowy spell has come as such a surprise to the global warming/climate change prophets of doom that the national shortage of gas supplies has got them into a right panic.

It wasn't very long ago that the global warming prophets were stating that snow would soon become a thing of the past. Every winter since they made that ridiculous statement we have had chaos-causing snow and lower than 'expected temperatures. The same applies to the predictions of a dryer climate due to global warming; we were all told we should be planting drought-loving plants in our gardens. The BBC gardening programs were full of this drought-loving plants advice. It now turns out that we should be planting rice.

The evidence is vividly clear; the global warming/climate change prophets are charlatans of the first order. All these prophets of doom wilfully ignore the activity of the sun in all their predictions, and yet the sun is the most significant factor in global temperatures and weather patterns. We don't have to be very clever to see it for ourselves either; every night when the sun goes down the earth cools; every winter when the sun is at a lower angle – temperatures cool. Now if we include in those simple observations the fact that the sun's energy output is not a constant because there are such phenomena as 'solar cycles' that true scientists are aware of, then the global warming/climate change false prophets should at least include the sun's activities in their predictions. But this doesn't fit in with their deceitful and wicked desire to blame man's release of CO2 (essential plant food) for global temperatures.

Another example as to why the EU is so Undemocratic.......

We are the only fools who actually follow all their bloody rules.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19168574

Quote:
As the country moves away from nuclear, the builders of coal-fired power stations are moving into action.

When Chancellor Merkel announced the closure of all the country's 17 nuclear reactors by 2022, there were loud cheers from environmentalists.

But less well heard were the cheers from the coal industry.

The organisation which represents it in Europe said the change of policy meant "the prospects for coal in general, and especially for coal-fired power plants under construction or in the planning stage, have become somewhat brighter".

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, just a river's width away from Germany, was also jubilant.

"From Poland's point of view, this is a good thing not a bad one," he said.

"It means coal-based power will be back on the agenda."

Another example, friend of mine has just returned from Working for a Month in Belgium which like probably the rest of the EU has anti smoking legislation in place for indoor public areas (like pubs).
The rule is being widely broken lots of people smoking in pubs and the authorities do nothing to enforce it.

On the plus side Angela has a right Cobb on this Morning.....

I dont know what these prophets of doom would have predicted in 1948, the world would have ended in 1949 for sure, the coldest winter, the hottest summer, I ever recalled, we had the Olympic games in this Country that year, sweltering heatwave, winter time the horses could not get out on the road for coal delivery, building work was halted, the two extremes in one year, I remember it well. :o ;)
