http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/9935242/Cyprus-bail-out-risks-UK-troops-savings.html

Quote:
Approximately €2bn (£1.7bn) of British deposits held in Cyprus will be subject to a levy of up to 10pc.

British-born Cypriots and their families, some of the UK’s 3,500 service personnel on the island and holiday home owners with savings locally are likely to be affected. The tax will raise €5.8bn to refinance the country’s ailing banks, in addition to the eurozone funds. The Government is considering reimbursing some of those affected

The EU which LibLabCon all promote has insisted on a raid of private depositors accounts in Cyprus as a condition of its bailout. Clearly this will affect some Brits on the Island notably service people from the Crown Bases there (we maintain 2 large bases one of which is a RAF air station which acts as a jumping off point to the Afghan and the East) and of course Ex Pats. Stories are already circulating in some of the press that individuals stand to lose up Euros 20,000 when the banks impose the haircut on Tuesday morning.

The UK Government has said this morning it will compensate UK government and service employees who have lost money but nothing about the large ex pat community out there. Yet nothing so far about seizing Cypriot assets in the UK to pay for this so yet another call on the UK taxpayer to shore up failed EU states.

The financial crisis enveloping the western world had just been notched up a few places. At a stroke the EU bank deposit guarantee has been trashed and no doubt those with significant deposits in Irish, Spanish, Portuguese and Greek banks are not about to leave it there to be snatched by bankrupt bankers.
Expect wide bank runs come tomorrow morning as people scramble to get their money out of questionable banks.

When Labour get in in 2015 they will return the Country to the level of spending when they were last in power I would give it no more than 2 years before the markets lose confidence in the UK due to runaway spending forcing us to the IMF who will also insist that private accounts are raided to assist with the costs.

Nothing will ever be the same again, a Rubicon has been crossed with this. Market reaction tomorrow will be very interesting.

Which is why if the world economy is presently focused on debt rather than value, a soveriegn debt restructuring option through the IMF is better than further debt being generated that could repolarise the economy.

Previous depressions have been caused when the markets have been outrated by events such as crop failures (the 1920s USA and postwar USSR).

Now the threats and horsetrading....

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2013/mar/18/eurozone-crisis-cyprus-bailout-savers-markets

Quote:

The Russian government has just blasted Cyprus's bank levy, piling more pressure on Nicosia ahead of this afternoon's vote on the bailout.

Vladimir Putin's official spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters in Moscow that the president is very concerned about the tax on savers.

Peskov said Putin had held a meeting on the situation in Cyprus this morning, where he was deeply critical of the plan:

Assessing the possible decision of imposing additional tax by Cyprus on deposits Putin said that this decision, if taken, would be unfair, unprofessional and dangerous.

Wealthy Russians own a substantial chunk of total deposits in Cyprus -- and eurozone officials were determined to make them share the pain of the bailout (given their concerns over money-laundering within the Cypriot banking system).

As mentioned at 7.53am, Russia has not decided yet whether it will extend its existing loan to Cyprus - giving Moscow plenty of leverage over the situation.

From our point of view Gazprom is owned and run by the sorts of people who will be having their savings confiscated on Cypriot banks.
Gazprom sells us and most of Europe gas..... Expect prices to rise as a result of this or for some technical problems to emerge in the pumping stations.....

Every bank account and deposit box should now be considered as at risk of being stolen by the banks. Nothing is now safe in any bank. Title deeds, jewellery, money, etc. Whatever is deposited in any bank must now be considered to be potential legal plunder. The banks have declared themselves a no-go zone.

I can quite imagine Ed Balls over the weekend sitting down on this news stroking his chin and thinking what a bloody great wheeze.

Lets face reality..... Labour are going to get back in in 2015, I give it a year to 18 Months until they bankrupt the Country and go cap in hand to the IMF.....

It will be prudent to get all your money out of fiat before the 2015 election.... Mind you gold is not safe either. There is a precedent where the US Government confiscated all held by private citizens in the 1930's. Hence the deposits at Fort Knox.

To be honest this is getting silly now. All we need is a correction in the housing market to reflect true value and the economy can get back onto an even keel but know we are talking and experiencing whole state failure.

For Labour ever to get back in will take major deception, Like the Cons they are well passed their sell by date, a shortage of 21st century thinking is the downfall of politics, this by the people, for the people is crap, we need the best people for the job, taken from the best management in business, ideology is fine if every body agrees, but when does that ever happen? a benign dictator with a proven record in the commercial world, along with a board of directors, taking charge of all departments, people who know what they are talking about, and a true vision. Politics are obsolete a job for the boys doing well in their own parties. England first and stop meddling in other Countries. ;) ;)

This grab from bank deposits in Cyprus is really a revelation of the mind-set of modern politics, than it is a degree of theft. This policy is positively telling us that bankers and politicians are low empathy thieves and lairs who believe they are beyond control, and will resort to anything to reduce us to slavery.

In truth, what is being to residents of Cyprus isn't nearly as bad as what is being done to ourselves at home here in the UK, where our own government does not reimburse ou for money stolen from us by politicains and bankers.

When the British Government states that it will reimburse any military or UK government employees living in Cyprus for any loss due to this theft of from bank deposits, the UK Government is being two-faced and hypocritical. Our government is trying to present the impression that it is on the side of legitimate savers. This is all smoke and mirrors by Cameron/Osborne & Co because our own governments have deliberately plundered ALL of our savings and bank accounts by the devaluation of our currency through Quantitative Easing, AND the below inflation rates of interest on all savings accounts.

With true inflation in the UK running at least at 20% per annum (probably significantly higher) and banks offering interest of sub 2% interest which is taxed at 20%, then our bank and building society accounts are being plundered by at least 19% per annum. The difference between ourselves in the UK and those living Cyprus is, our government and banks are being far more devious about what they are doing to us, whereas in Cyprus the people are being told to expect a percentage of their savings to be stolen.
