A borrow to give away economy must surely fail, have we really been dumbed down to this level? :(
Jim, The politicos believe we have all been dumbed down.

Quite long but a good watch.....

From the historical perspective it would appear there are plenty of warning signals that we could be at a critical juncture of human history. Whilst I agree the term "collapse" is somewhat misleading as it is probably more the ruling elites lose their legitimacy as marginal returns diminish and people move on to other areas and form new groups rather than collapse and vanish.

The similarities between now and the collapse of the Western Roman empire do appear striking, certainly with the expansion of welfare, govt expenditures not meeting incomes, currency debasement passing the cost of the current crisis onto future generations. etc...

There are too many variables to know if we are at "failure" point but it's clear we do have enormous stresses that could trigger a failure of legitimacy in the current ruling elites.

Thanks for that, Geezer. I've downloaded the video, and hope to watch it later when I have some time.

Joseph A Tainter makes some interesting observations and draws some fascinating conclusions. He appears to be saying that collapse of human society is inevitable. I happen to believe there is to be an end to human society as we know it, but not for quite the same reasons as Tainter does.

Tainter makes some interesting connections with history, especially Roman history. George Osborne is an historian by qualification, as are so many elitists. It never ceases to amaze me how many of the elite and the Establishment have studied history – especially ancient history.

Tainter does not mention the fundamental problem with all human societies and civilisations. The problem is: every member of all human societies is by nature a self-centred sinner. Tainter also ignores the actions and involvement of a Holy God in the affairs of sinful mankind.

The Old Testament prophet Daniel makes a very profound statement concerning governments, kings, leaders, etc. Daniel tells us in Daniel 2:21-22:
Quote:
“And He (that is God Almighty, the Creator) changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him.”
With kings rising and falling it isn't unreasonable to expect to see empires and societies rising and falling - and without a full explanation from a human perspective.

Tainter's assessment of history does not rule out that human governments and their agents do actively conspire together against the well-being of the people of the world. The first three verses from Psalm 2 make my point:
Quote:
Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us."
UnGodly raging nations (societies), and secretive plotting would appear to be a major part of our problem today. As an example, Common Purpose are a secretive organisation that actively conspire and undermine the foundations of our society - as doo bankers and politicians.

Again from Daniel, this time from chapter 8 verses 24-25:
Quote:
His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people. "Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he shall be broken without human means.
Here we are told to expect a very powerful global leader to arise. He will be destructive, and inspiring great fear. He will personally become prosperous. He will wage war against “the holy people”. He will exalt himself above all authority and powers. He will cause many to be destroyed in their prosperity. And HE WILL cause DECEIT TO PROSPER – presumably because he will be a master of deceit, dishonesty, and subterfuge (characteristics that have become part-and-parcel of modern global politics).

The apostle John writing in The Revelation provides us with a prophecy that tells us a day is coming when kings, bankers, political leaders, and the global merchants of the world will cry out in terror at what comes upon their world of commerce. Chapters 17 and 18 of the Book of Revelation provide a large part of the story. But here is a small extract from chapter 18 verses 11-13 to make my point:
Quote:
"And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men.

So from a Biblical perspective: I expect to see kings/political powers arise and fall without a full explanation from human understanding. I expect to see political and financial/banking collusion, especially in the end-times. I expect a deceitful and fear inspiring one-world globalist dictator to arise. I expect the whole world financial and economic system to ultimately collapse. By the way, that isn't the end of the story – it gets much better.

back to topic,

Banks and governments obey their heads of states and their advisers in times of conflict. Negotiate with Irand and North Korea on nukes and remove teh grievancaes from International relations by reforming teh conduct of our allies is the best advice I can give
