http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/conservative/9782816/Tory-manifesto-blueprint-lower-benefits-for-Northerners-and-longer-school-days.html

Quote:
The range of new measures – requested by the Chancellor George Osborne — include abolishing the retirement age, extending the school day by up to three hours and paying lower benefits in the North and other parts of the country where the cost of living is less expensive.

It's official Proof positive they don't want to be re-elected.........

With the obvious exception of housing/rent costs, essential items really aren't that much more expensive in London. Lidl or Asda or even many markets are still cheap. Some things can even be cheaper - a bus journey can be far cheaper than in the provinces. What does tend to be more expensive is discretionary stuff - catching a taxi, going to a private school, eating and drinking out.

Some poor kid that isn't that bright will be bulled at school by the teacher work through his summer holidays so he can catch up only to find the shelf stacking job he ends up anyway with didn't require him going through that torture.

All Labour need to do to win a landslide is promise to reinstate child benefit and keep Ed Balls quiet until after the next election.

I assume if benefits are cut for those in this so called North then they will be entitled to a different (lower of course) rate of tax? Also why are those who are about to have their retirements abolished continue to pay NI? And what happens to the NI they have paid all their life?

Labour were a disaster,but it seems the Tories haven't a bl00dy clue.

Just why would they want to be elected apart from it being an overpaid job, well thats reason enough I suppose, they could not do the job then! so why should we believe them now, apart from are they realy worse than the Tories, now that's a close call, A new kid on the block may or may not be any different, whatever is decided by the people who are free thinking, not the old clans who vote the same way whatever, the indoctrinated from what their fathers believed, will only be the sure way, as I see it they only have to be different to succeed, LABOUR JUST CANT HANDLE IT, TORIES DONT SEEM TO WANT TO, maybe it is time to break out, at least its a FREE choice, the old saying if it aint broke dont ment it, surely do apply here . :) ;)

Labour have given me the impression that they will try and spend their way out of recession and anyone with an ounce of sense knows that that will lead to higher debt - again. The Tory approach to reducing the debt is the correct move IMO.

I agree that the Tories have some things wrong but I think stopping or reducing Child Benefit for those on £50k and above is absolutely fair and the right move.

My view is that UKIP have it right in that they would aim to reduce or eliminate foreign aid to reduce our debt and look after us first.

What is it now £26M a day to Brussels ? How many nurses/Police/teachers etc could you train and employ for that ?

maybe UKIP do have it right, the one thing going for them is the alternative. Tories have inherited one massive debit to clear up that means extra taxes to the people, Labour want to borrow even more, one thing that dont add up they cant get their head around, you dont reduce a debt by adding to it, they should have learnt that bye now, as judgement day draws near. so come polling day the choices we are left with, is two known failures, one thrown out years ago middle of the road er, a couple of no hope rs, a few independents unknown, a newish party promising all things to the disenchanted in particular the issue of Europe. its still a free choice, given to all English people including those who have taken advantage of weak or misguided previous Governments and taken up citizenship. :) ;)

Trouble is Jim the debt is now too large. Unless there is a real impetus to roll back the state and reduce the size of everything it is going to spiral out of control.

Here is a recent interview on Russia Today of a backbench Tory MP (Member for Hi Wycombe I think) who actually gets it and understand the current situation.

Titled the Collapse of UK debt-ridden social system only matter of time he gives a candid interview on how things have already gone beyond the point of no return.

Interesting to note that only the back channels broadcast this sort of message, it would never make it to the BBC.

13 minutes but a great watch and goes some way to explain the difficulties of economics.
