The NUM - a 1970s/80s union which always didn't give a monkeys as long as their members were OK (Like the 21st century RMT) are to evict a poor NUM pensioner from his free flat in the Barbican. Scandalous ;)

I'm sure there are some very deep black holes in Wales, he could move into. At a last resort.

With the money he probably earned surely he could have afforded his own property?

There does need to be a blck hole for the likes of Scargill, Crowe and Red Robbo, the ones who are somewhat responsible for trying the wreck the country.

I have no particular regard for Scargill indeed the opposite, he almost single handedly led a once proud and established trade union to complete destruction.

We all realised at the time that most of the coal mines were uneconomic and that something had to be done to stem the losses. Far better to have sat down and negotiated the large sums which were available and used that to regenerate the mining towns and villages which were to be affected by the closures.

Once it became Scargill vs Thatcher with his attempt to bring down the Government and her ambition to destroy the Trade Union movement all of us suffered including democracy.
The Met were Maggies 'black and tans' and the BBC the government's propaganda machine deliberately altering footage to make it look like the miners attacked the police when the opposite was true.

No doubt there will be some here who will poo poo (thinking the sun shines out of Mrs Thatchers ying yang ;) ) this account but the evidence is out there.

How many of you believed the official accounts of the Hillsboro disaster (including the public enquiry) which was around the same time.

Whichever way you look at it Thatcher did win and Trade Union power was abated (except for some intrinsic parts of industry tube drivers for one), the result all of us are losers and multinationals large and small in the UK now get away with paying minimum wage which has to be topped up to a living wage with tax credits funded by all tax payers.
