Hospital car parking charges are already going some way to achieving this. Here is a link to the parking charges at Mt Vernon hospital:

http://www.thh.nhs.uk/about/travel/parking-MV.php

Take a walk around the car parks there and you may be suprised by the amount of parking spaces nearest to the buildings, taken up by gas guzzling vehicles with personalised number plates. Call me a cynic, but I suspect the majority of them are owned by GP's and Consultants.

No need to be cynical Moley GP's and lower rank Doctors will be on £120,000+ per year Consultants and higher ranks nearer £200,000. Thank the last Government for bumping up their earning levels by constant NHS interference where the medical provisions were able to hold a gun to their head in the negotiations.

By the way most of them retire at age 55. With such an attractive pension scheme they would be fools not to.

Best bit of all of it is the pension scheme is unfunded which means it has to be paid from general taxation. It's now part of the reason why taxes are so high and why they constantly have to go up.

... and the perfectly fit people who park in the disabled bays right in front.

I've been tempted a few times to take some stickers with me and stick them on the windscreen right in their field of vision.

I've already left trolleys immediately behind but I can't do that now or I'd lose me quid !

Geezer466 raises a very valid point regarding the number of fast food outlets currently swamping our local High Streets and shopping centres.

The demand for them must be there, otherwise they wouldn't thrive in the way they are, and who is granting them permission ? The very Councils who would benefit most from an increase in parking charges. The sheer hypocrisy is mind blowing.

Years ago I saw a Beemer in a disabled bay and somebody had put a sign on his windscreen "Ignorance is Not a Disabilty"

Good one Brian!

I know somebody who is registered blind and has been given a parking disc (!!) which her daughter uses when they go on the weekly shopping trip. Even the woman concerned thinks it's daft as she is able to walk, but she uses the permit as it makes things easier - especially when it's raining. I reckon she and her daughter are as ignorant as anyone else who take up a disabled bay unnecessarily, but on this occasion, it's legitimate thanks to a Council (LBH of course) dishing this permits out like sweets :(
