***UPDATED SATURDAY NOVEMBER 24TH 2012 @ 2300 Hrs***

Unfortunately for folk in the West Country the rainfall predictions proved to be fairly accurate with a further 50cms ( 2" ) reported from Plymouth today. Devon and Cornwall have again seen the worst of the rain, and with more heavy rain predicted between now and Tuesday, its a case of near continuous mopping up for some.

The strongest winds from this system are still to our south so here in London and The South East we can expect some breezy conditions overnight, with winds particularly increasing in East Anglia as this Low deepens further as it heads out into the North Sea Sunday morning. Recent reports confirm that winds are picking up along the South Coast. ( Hampshire, West and East Sussex. )

A brief respite should follow during daylight hours on Sunday, before the next system heads in from the south west on Sunday night.

Its likely to be midweek before we see any real change in this pattern, and by next weekend daytime maximum temperatures will have fallen several degrees from current levels. Down from 10-11c (50-52f ) to 5-6c ( 41-42f )

We seem to have got off lightly so far .... as we know Devon is bad, A friend in Gloucester has just said the river is about to burst with rain still falling heavy and friends in Bristol are telling me its hammering down there too :(

^^ Yes we have got off very lightly here in London and The South East Jane, although there is a spiky little rain band heading towards us right now. It may miss us altogether, and in any event its likely to be a short lived downpour at worst. Im still expecting the winds to pick up for a time in the early morning hours.

The Environmental Agency have been updating their warnings continuously in the last 24 hours, and there are now 4 SEVERE flood warnings in place in Cornwall, for Polperro, Perranporth, Helston and Fowey. Thats on top of all the other warnings and alerts they have issued for the South West. SEVERE is the highest level, and is usually only issued when lives are in danger.

Moley :(

*** SUNDAY NOVEMBER 25TH 2012 @ 0215 Hrs ***

After that recent burst of very heavy rain winds are really picking up here now.

An as yet unconfirmed report from a very reliable source in Brighton says winds down there currently gusting 60-70mph, debris flying all over the place, car alarms going off and possible structural damage.

Moley :(

It did get mighty windy around 3am in Hayes .... luckily the worst damage seems to be that part of a huge Leylandi tree came down across the road .....

^^ True.

Im somewhat suprised to see the maximum wind gust at RAF Northolt overnight was 'only' 47mph. It certainly sounded a lot worse than that.

My theory is that nature has a way of balancing itself. After all this rain I can see a long drawn out dry period again !

Guesses on a date for a hose ban ?
