I can safely predict that we will have 'weather' throughout the Winter :)

Its all about selling newspapers basically, so no suprise there then. The Daily 'Excess' and The Daily 'Fail' are the two worst culprits, and they are widely despised by professional meteorologists, amateur metereorologists and people like me who just watch the weather as a hobby. ( I love that reference to Lego and Airfix models Batty Bat, made me laugh ! )

This link is worth a read:

http://themediablog.typepad.com/the-med ... lines.html

Whilst headlines like the one Geezer has provided ( and the link I have provided shows just how frequent they are in The Express ) may seem harmless and amusing, they are not. Quite apart from damaging the reputation of proper forecasting agencies ( and I include our very own much unfairly maligned Met Office in that ) they deliberately set out to mislead the public to boost sales.

Wheres the harm in that you might think ?

Where potential severe weather is concerned theres potential for a great deal of harm to be caused by 'crying wolf' once a week or even once a month. ( Both figures directly attributable to The Daily Express, as per above link.)

While its possible with the help of (non Lego/Airfix ) models to spot a POSSIBLE trend some way ahead, its bl**dy irresponsible to plaster it all over the front pages in great big headlines saying 'this WILL happen' as often as they do.

For sure it will get colder at times, its not rocket science, we are now heading from late Autumn into Winter, the days are shorter, and we tend to get the occasional Northerly/Easterly blast here in the UK.

Over in my weather thread here I tend to stick to 3-5 day predictions, and even those can go wrong, but if I think a definate trend needs keeping an eye on I will mention it, and point the readers to professional resources such as the Met Office for specific warnings.

Phew, I have said more than enough. Whatever the weather be lucky, be healthy, be happy.

Moley 8-)

Over the decades we have had extremes of weather patterns according to some they are man made I have heard such causes such as testing atom bombs, supersonic flights, space probes, you name it, we done it, personally I think the most likely is the epileptic orbit the planet takes on its journey around the sun, and stabilizing this orbit is the key, so on the next solstice in December everybody should travel down to Stonehenge transferring as much weight as possible to adjust the rotation in sync to slow down the rotation, thus bringing 24 hrs of daylight each day then the next solstice in June every one in Australia go to their place of sun worship to tilt the balance back to their advantage, there you have it Moley your redundent, see jon for your pay off, me Im'e off to Thomas Cook to book my ticket. :o ;)
