Premier Foods, the maker of Hovis, is cutting 900 jobs at its bread division and is closing two bakeries.

The company said it would close two bakery sites in Greenford, west London and Birmingham some time next year.

That bakery has been there for as long as I can remember.. Although Jim can probably remember it being built in the 1890's...... 8-)

I see Warburtons closed some sites down across the UK last Month..... The public drive to cheaper bread is really having an impact..

Why spend £1.50 on a hovis or warburtons loaf when you can get a loaf for 47p (or thereabouts) in tesco or aldi's.

Upmarket bread it would seem is one of the first thinks people start to economise on... Second up is Comet TV's......

I love Warburtons bread and think it's worth the extra.

Not sure about Allied - what brand do they sell?

Bakery in Springfield Road. My mum worked at virtually ALL the factories that used to be in Hayes. I believe they baked Mother's Pride.

hang on.... only just realised you don't see Mother's Pride any more. When did that disappear????

Oh - like I say, not heard of that one before. Sounds like Hayes was thriving at one time ? Such a shame how times change :(
As for Mothers Pride ... you're right, it's gone !! I never even noticed even though I was brought up on that !!
