I hope it really rains hard over the weekend (late afternoon onwards) - just to stop those awful fireworks !!

All those in favour :D

One of my neighbours, not directly next door, learnt his lesson a few years back when he set off a 'display' firework and it shattered one of his patio door panes

Not the thing to do with the small gardens round here.

** Updated Saturday November 3rd at 10:15Hrs **

There's been a fair amount of wind and rain along the South Coast in the last few days, and that looks like continuing into Sunday as 2 areas of Low Pressure come into play over the weekend.

Both systems need watching as the threat is there for further heavy rainfall, and strong to gale force winds again posing a risk for Southern Coastal Counties in particular. Its really just a continuation of typically Autumnal weather, but over an inch of rain on already saturated ground, accompanied by gusts of up to 60mph through the English Channel are not to be sniffed at.

Ive got mixed feelings about the fireworks. Personally I really enjoy a well organised public display, and Sussex is in a league of its own in that respect, with processions and marching bands making for a thoroughly entertaining free night out for all the family.

Why anyone would want to blow up their own back garden and patio windows whilst annoying the neighbours is beyond me !

Enjoy the rest of your weekend whatever the weather.

Moley .. as ever, thankyou for your forecasts which always make interesting reading especially recently.
Regarding fireworks, it is animals I really feel sorry for. Pet dogs and cats, even though may be indoors, don't understand the noises and loud bangs and they can be terrified into just shaking, whimpering and generally being in distress.

Also, the dangers for anyone. I was once hit and burnt by a rocket when we had a bonfire and fireworks in the garden years ago. It came straight for me instead of going up into the sky and was an unpleasant experience. I was glad it hit me and not any of my children, though. They were frightened enough seeing what happened to me.
The big firework displays can be very spectacular but I am just relieved when they are over.

Keep up the good work with the forecasts and thankyou for your time in posting them. :) Marian

Moley - I agree totally that good organised displays are what we need. Then we all know what time they'll be going off and can stay away if we want. I think the sale of fireworks to the general public should be stopped altogether - even Tesco are selling those 150 repeater bombs !! Why ? They're not pretty - just scarily loud :( Next week is Diwali and that is always worse around here ..... I hope it dumps 2ft of snow for that :-)

Just a very quick update from me this morning as Im tired and going to bed shortly.

As Kremmen has mentioned, the rain from this Low Pressure set up is now upon us, started just after 4am at Heathrow, and its getting heavier. Although the system(s) is fairly small in scale its packing a potential punch for London and The South East.

Anywhere in our region could receive a deluge in the next few hours, then add in the increased chance of a thunderstorm, hail, strong winds and even a chance of sleet/snow on higher ground ( especially to the west of us ) its going to be a rather unpleasant few hours, and a very good excuse for a Sunday morning lay-in. As if you needed an excuse !!

Since I'll be sleeping through the worst of it Im relying on you all for reports on how it is where you are.

My genuine thanks to everyone who reads these ramblings, and your replies are always appreciated. Be careful out there.

Reports of heavy snow and road closures coming in from parts of the West Country and Central Southern England this morning.

Mostly rain for our region for the next couple of hours, but I would recommend keeping an eye and ear on local forecasts for the time being. Anything is possible.

Moley :?

Can we have some nice weather this afternoon, got someone coming to sort out my patio door which will likely involve a big hole in the back for a while :)
