I have just come home past an awful road accident outside Pangs on Long Lane, Hillingdon Circus.

It appears a car came out of Granville Road, turning right into Long Lane without giving way and struck a car. The 1st car sped off an hit two people - possible a couple - who were cross at the pedestrian lights. The woman struck by the car was thrown onto the pavement, but the man was thrown from the road, across the pavement onto the service road outside Pangs. There seems to be a 3rd car with damage and blood on it

It's an awful mess, with blood on part of the road and down the back of one of the 3 cars

Thankfully I missed the worst of it, but have just spent an hour calming down a neighbour who witnessed the whole thing. It's even shaken me up and I didn't see a thing!

A policeman has just told me that "it's all gone bad, so we need to widen the cordon". I asked him had one of the couple died, to which he replied "something like that'.

I cant see Long lane being open before the rush hour, so I'd avoid if you were planing on using it. So very sad

*Edit* The rumour is that 2 are dead - but that may just be idle gossip from shocked locals :(

I didn't know the Gazette used video.

This video shows a black car opposite the camera operator and outside Pangs. There is some clothing or a medical dressing on the service road at the back of the black car - plus some yellow number markers the Police use in photos. This is where the man ended up and later received CPR whilst on an ambulance trolley

The black 4x4 on the camera side of the road and to the camera operators right, is damaged with bits of the bodywork poking out, just above the cill. Not sure what that car's involvement is, but the Met were taking pictures of it so it is part of the incident. Lastly, as the camera pans right, a bus has been held in it's position as it left the bus stop. There are (unseen) more police plastic numbered markers on the road in front of the bus.

One thought that has occurred to me after seeing the video is that when buses are at that stop (outside the fish & chip shop), it is very difficult for cars turning right out of Granville to see along Long lane towards Ruislip). As the bus was held at the scene, I would assume it was evidence, so I wonder if that blind spot caught this woman out, and after the first collision in front of the bus, she drove off in a panic, mounting the kerb and mowing this couple down

I suppose all will come out later. Let's hope that despite the odds, they both make a full - or reasonable recovery

Dad was in the delayed queue after it, seemed ok but this kind of thing can upset pensioners.

James: You don't have to be a pensioner to be upset by such a scene!!

I am barely shaving (Ahem!) and I was shaken up by the sight of the old boy being worked on (CPR) whilst on the ambulance trolley, plus all the blood - and that's even though I was attending this type of scene as a job for 32 years, until 4 years ago. Now I am a squeamish wimp who is more likely to faint than be any use in an emergency!!

Sadly I read that the 65 year old man hit by the car died last night. The lady also struck was indeed his wife and she has been discharged from hospital. So sad :(
