Any improvement expected in the next week Moley?

I have just spent 20 minutes or so typing a reply to this question and its dissapeared into the ether :(

I'll try again.

Pam, Try as i might I cannot see any signs of an improvement in the next week and beyond. Not only is the UK surrounded by Low Pressure systems ( 4 at the latest count ), it has now become a breeding ground for them.

We are now almost halfway through the official summer months ( June 1st-August 31st ) and records are tumbling for highest rainfall and lowest sunshine totals already. This really is turning out to be a year without summer.

Moley :(

Meanwhile some parts of the USA are sweltering under extreme heat.

Thought we might have been lucky enough to come home to some sun! But no such luck!

And would you believe we STILL have a hose pipe ban in this area!

^^Haaaa....no chance Pam. This really is turning into the year without a summer. The last 48 hours have been especially dire in some areas, the West Country in particular.

I've been trying to catch up with reports from a number of weather related websites but as you can imagine, its been a bit busy !!

Unofficial figures I have seen so far include:

32 hours of continuous/non-stop rain in parts of Devon and Dorset.

Over 100mm's ( 4 inches ) of rainfall in some areas of the same counties.

Bournemouth Airport has recorded 173% of the total average July rainfall so far, just 7 days into the month. In June the same location recorded a staggering 250% of the June average.

Dozens of major roads closed due to flooding

The Met Office issuing the highest level ( Red ) alert for parts of the South West. Some weather agencies have warned of life threatening situations.

Tonight there are reports of widespread flooding from a respected poster in Brighton, looking at the latest radar that rainfall is heading directly for London. The first drops are beginning to fall as I type. BE AWARE.

The coldest July day for some on the South Coast, with a maximum of just 14.4c.

On and on it goes, I can barely keep up with all the reports coming in. In the meantime I was chatting with a friend in Argyle, Iowa yesterday. The temperature there reached 109.8f this week. In all seriousness I was extremely sceptical of all the talk and warnings about 'climate change', but events this year are beginning to make me think again.

Moley

One thing this has taught me is that when I retire, and move out, to ensure I avoid any 'at risk' flood areas.

It may look pretty having a river flowing at the bottom of your garden but ......................

I know what you mean.

I thought this popular book '50 Shades of Grey' was about UK weather forecasting, until I started reading it :o ;)

Weather Warnings issued by the Met Office for London and the South East for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week now.

I don't really see anything to suggest they are wrong at this stage :(
