Back to the apron at Heathrow it was all giant tents in the begging as the runways were down and planes landing, the first of the cargo buildings I remember was KLM the Dutch carrier then there was BOAC and BEA that merged to become BA, Lufthansa the German airline then the tent were replaced by secure warehouses and went from there in double quick time, before heathrow was a ballast pit cabbage field a large green house in the centre. :) :)

I remember the tents at Heathrow well Jim,during my national service I flew first class, eight sappers a major and a sergent major all the way to hickham airbase Hawaii. It cost the army £245 for me,a fortune in 1957.I told my parents when we would be flying, they rushed over to central but we flew from the tents just along the Bath Road ,hence they missed me. :o

the Azores high has not materialised so far this year, as soon as barometric rises it is falling away so quick and not establishing itself. :o

Got it in one Jim. The Azores High is pretty much non existant because the Jet Stream is much further south than it would normally be at this time of year. Its pretty much planted right over the UK, and has been for some time. End result, polar air being drawn into the UK and a seemingly endless procession of Low Pressure Systems forming out in the Atlantic, all with our name on them.

There is a hint of some slightly warmer weather this week, but quite frankly I wouldn't hold your breath. All the signs are that yet another Low will be heading our way towards the end of this week. There is one glimmer of hope.....the South East MAY see the best of the weather this week.

The downpour Monday morning was my fault because I washed and polished the car at the weekend

As usual, by the time I got to the other end of the bypass I'd wasted my time

Well washing cars and fitting wood burning stoves is this this forecasters nightmare !!

What is that saying about A British Summer being 3 fine days and a thunderstorm ?? The next weather warning has already been issued by The Met Office, and it seems we won't even reach 3 fine days this week. How about Thursday for a possible thundery breakdown from The South as yet another Low Pressure System wends its merry way here ?

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ ... html?day=3.

Some folk are suggesting this latest batch of wet weather will be downgraded nearer the time, but Im yet to be convinced, and its potentially less than 48 hours away now. Again I will be trying to keep an eye on it, but a run of early shifts is playing havoc with my body clock right now and I really don't like getting up for work at 4am.

Moley :(

No need for a/c here in the UK so far gmr.

My early morning ( 5am ) drive into work at Heathrow this morning was a bit of a challenge. Wipers at full speed couldn't cope with the rainfall and at one point I had to pull over for a few minutes, because I couldnt safely see through the windscreen. Whilst I wouldn't go as far as saying the roads were flooded, they were seriously overwhelmed for much of the journey.

The latest information Im able to glean is that yet another Low Pressure System is winding itself up to affect the UK this evening, and overnight. (Thursday into Friday ). As usual the track of this low is impossible to predict, but as its approaching from the south , its the south that will feel the affects first.

With the weekend approaching, and no doubt some of you will have plans in mind, I would suggest Saturday is the best day for any outdoors activities. It will feel cool, and at times windy, but mostly dry. Sunday looks very much like being yet another wet rain off day.

Moley
