It certainly seems that way way Kremm. An area near Nottingham has seen a near stationary system dropping close to 4 inches of rain overnight, and it already looks as though the South Coast is off to a flying start this morning, with an an area of heavy rain in the English Channel brushing the coastal regions of Sussex as it heads east.

Another lively day in prospect for many again I think. I may even get out for a local chase sometime this afternoon if conditions look favourable, Im fed up with all this activity passing just a few miles to the north or south of me for the last 2 weeks.

You can keep your 'white rain' thanks very much gmr !!

Had a dusting of white rain this morning:Daughters new patio furniture looks good in a uniform white.

^^ Enjoy your snow gmr !! Hope you are feeling better by the way.

Meanwhile here in London and The South East several agencies have issued warnings for severe weather in our region for today. ( Wednesday )

Quite apart from the persistent heavy rain of this morning which has so far delivered over 20mm's ( approx 3/4 " ) here in LBH, this afternoon is likely to see some fairly widespread and potent thunderstorm development for many of us.

Large hail, lightning, heavy rain, very gusty winds and the occasional funnel cloud/tornado can by no means ruled out. Southern Coastal counties are the prime location for the latter due to local topography, but its certainly a day for looking skywards. Please see the link below for one of the many warnings issued so far, this one at 09:57 hrs this morning:

Thats more than likely for quite a few locations Kremm and it looks increasingly possible many of us could be heading for one of the wettest Aprils ever. Today ( Friday ) is showing every sign of adding to the total for parts of London and the South East with the set-up almost perfect for a a 'train' of slow moving, heavy and most likely thundery showers running from The West Country through to East Anglia for much of the day.

The far South East may miss it, as the current track appears to come as far South as London and perhaps Surrey. All subject to chage of course. Again there is a chance of spotting a funnel cloud, there have been several sightings reported already this week.

As for the weekend, it looks pretty dire and as early as yesterday ( Thursday ) The Met Office were putting out Severe Weather Warnings for London and The South East:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ ... nings.html

The exact track and timing of the Low coming up from the South is still uncertain, but it could deliver some hefty rainfall and very strong winds to most of our region unless it decides to take a left turn and veer off west.

Looking a bit further ahead there are some tentative signs that towards the middle of next week the weather may settle slightly, perhaps even becoming a few degrees warmer in any sunny spells but, rain never looks too far away from our neck of the woods.

Thanks as always for posting and reading. Moley 8-)

Just a very quick update from me today as we finally say farewell to this awful weekend. Apologies to anyone expecting some good news, but the Met Office have already issued yet another warning for London and The South East. This one for Tuesday:

The nice man on the radio said we wouldn't need to take an umbrella out with us today and it certainly is a bright sunny morning.

It's about time too! :D

^^ It may well be short lived Im afraid as the next weather system is already winding itself up over Spain and France and heading our way later this evening and overnight. Further heavy rainfall is expected for London and The South East during this time, and again localised flooding could occur.

I hope to be collating some figures for April later this week, but so far unconfirmed reports suggest Heathrow has recorded its wettest ever April. The recordings from my own weather station seem to confirm this, but obviously its not as accurate as The Met Office data. The coming Bank Holiday weekend looks set to be another dissapointment based on current information, but more on that as the week progresses.

Meanwhile, not too far away parts of the continent ( North East France, Germany, Poland, Austria, Switzerland ) have been seeing some record breaking April heat with temperatures of 32c ( 90f ) quite widely.

Thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

Another day, and another Met Office warning issued for heavy rain overnight in London and The South East again tonight.
( Wednesday into Thursday ). A further 20-40mm falling on already saturated ground in a relatively short space of time is not what we need.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weat ... ionName=uk

Re my post above, that system on Monday night produced some quite spectacular night time thunderstorms, lightning displays and torrential rain across quite a large swathe of London, The South East and East Anglia. Here in Northwood I was treated to about an hour of frequent lightning, not always accompanied by thunder, but really not very much at all in the way of rain. Any rain that did fall came in very short heavy bursts of a few minutes or so, quite odd. How was it where you were, I would be interested to know ?

Its worth mentioning that tonights feature will originate from an almost identical set-up of conditions, and from the same source ( The near Continent ).

As we approach the Bank Holiday Weekend its now looking pretty much certain that temperatures will be taking a dip to below average as we feed in a north/north easterly airflow from Friday. Saturday is looking distinctly chilly, and many areas in our region could see an overnight frost or two. At this stage the potential for rainfall is uncertain, as is the amount of cloud cover and/or sunshine. More to follow later in the week.

Thanks as always. Moley 8-)

No thunder etc here Moley although frequent rain showers ..... but Swindon had the Lightening storm. My daughter said it was weird as no rain, one clap of thunder but huge bolts of lightening across the sky xxxx
