Nor Surrey yesterday afternoon.

Had the dark grey clouds drifting over Yeading in the evening.

Last April was a record breaker for warmth and sunshine for us in London and The South East. The odds now seem to be stacked in favour of this April being a bit of a shocker by comparison. Cold, wet and windy anyone ?

Of course its far from certain this far out, thats why its known as FI ( Fantasy Island ) in weather websites, but I thought it worth mentioning.

Moley :?

I posted this on March 19th, and would be interested to hear your thoughts as we approach the middle of the month. Personally I don't think its too far removed from what many of us in London and The South East have been experiencing so far, though I admit there have been some localised differences.

In general it has been colder and wetter than March for most of us, though perhaps not as windy as I thought. Unless of course you are located in one of the 'storm belts' that sprung up during the last week. These produced some noteable downdrafts and gust fronts, along with the occassional funnel cloud. Some parts of the region are now reporting more thunderstorms in the last 4 days alone than they have recorded in any of the previous 4-6 years.

Its a trend that looks set to continue into next week and beyond. After a slight lull this weekend it looks like becoming very unsettled again, with more in the way of much needed rainfall. Better now than a washout summer I suppose.

Further afield The Mediterranean is looking very stormy this weekend, and a large swathe of The American Midwest is currently under a severe storm warning. Its a volatile time of year for the northern hemisphere as we move from spring to summer.

Thanks to Jane and Kremm for the reports, and thanks for reading.

This stormy spell is now entering its 5th day, with the South West now the centre of attraction today. ( Dorset, Devon and particularly Cornwall ) are on the receiving end of some severe weather. Thunderstorms and localised flooding are on the cards from an area roughly westward of Poole/Bournemouth for the next few hours.

Hello, and welcome to the thread. A lot depends on what you mean by 'live forecasts' and also your location. I use a number of sources, most of which offer a reasonably up to date picture of the weather, but then I concentrate mainly on the UK, and London and the South East in particular. Accu Weather, The Weather Channel and Wunderground are pretty good.

Looking locally for the rest of this week, the quiet spell of this weekend is rapidly drawing to a close. Just as another 17 counties join the 'drought list' ( though not neccessarily hospepipe bans ) today, the Atlantic is about to take charge and introduce a very unsettled spell of weather this week.

Low pressure will never be too far away throughout the week from Monday night onwards, with associated troughs and fronts delivering more in the way of rainfall and some windy conditions for our region. At times the rain will be quite prolonged, but also followed by periods of sunny spells and scattered heavy showers for many of us. Towards mid and late week these showers are likely to become more thundery in nature as we possibly draw up some warmer air from the near continent.

Temperatures are hard to predict this week as we see a battle between colder polar air from the north following behind the fronts at times. As a rough guide I would say in the region of 10-14c ( 50-57f ) so quite a spread on the cards. The higher temperatures are more likely towards the end of the week as the winds tend to ease.

More updates to follow, and thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

**UPDATED FRIDAY APRIL 20TH 2012** - I thought I would just in case anyone is still reading :!:

So, apart from the (slightly) warmer temperatures towards the end of this week everything else is panning out pretty much as predicted in my last post. Here in the north of the borough there have been one or two deluges, with a solitary rumble of thunder on Thursday, but overall the London area has experienced some fairly impressive storms, not least of which was the one yesterday evening which knocked out a fair chunk of the rail network for a few hours. This was due to a direct lightning strike on an electrical sub station in South West London, crippling much of the signalling system.

This very unsettled spell of weather shows little or no sign of abating any time soon as far as I can see. Regular readers of this topic will know I dont like to look more than 4 or 5 days ahead generally, but this may prove to be an exception. I really can't see any change to this pattern for the next 7 - 10 days for us in London and The South East as things stand. So it could well be a case of deja-vu for the 3rd week in succession, next week delivering very similar weather to many of us as the last 2 weeks have done so far.

Some of you may have read or seen the media forecasts for the 'coldest May in 100 years'. For now I will take those with a pinch of salt, and I will comment further nearer the time.

For anyone planning to run in, or watch the London Marathon on Sunday, the front runners should enjoy pretty much ideal conditions. Dry and fairly cool to begin with, but the fun runners/fund raisers/brave stragglers could well find themselves battling against the elements later in the day.

Whatever the weather, thanks for reading, and enjoy your weekend. Moley 8-)

I think someone 'up there' has responded with "So it's water you want is it" ?

It certainly seems that way way Kremm. An area near Nottingham has seen a near stationary system dropping close to 4 inches of rain overnight, and it already looks as though the South Coast is off to a flying start this morning, with an an area of heavy rain in the English Channel brushing the coastal regions of Sussex as it heads east.

Another lively day in prospect for many again I think. I may even get out for a local chase sometime this afternoon if conditions look favourable, Im fed up with all this activity passing just a few miles to the north or south of me for the last 2 weeks.

You can keep your 'white rain' thanks very much gmr !!

A potentially very wet and windy day for all of London and The South East looks almost certain on Wednesday as an Atlantic Low barrels in from the west overnight.

Some places could see over an inch of rain, and winds could gust at 50-60 mph along the South Coast, more like 25-40 mph inland. An altogether unpleasant day is on the cards.

Moley :(
