Heathrow reckon 58% of those living round the airport "feel good about it" and only 7% feel negative. They're produced this promotional video:

Must admit, I love the airport! I like the idea of expanding it, but don't like the idea of losing chunks of the Heathrow villages. Maybe they could build a second storey instead?

Interesting video, but I thought the northern runway option (destroying Harmondsworth & Sipson) was now dropped in favour of extending the existing northern runway to the west???

I am not sure about the expansion of LHR. Since a kid cycling over and watching the Tridents, VC10s and other noisy BEA and BOAC aircraft, I have been enthralled by this place. I fly to/from it regularly on business including into T5 yesterday. While the recent improvements have been astonishing. Stacking on the way in remains the biggest frustration, and I assume the new capacity will solve this - at least for a while.

I acknowledge the jobs it creates and the money it brings in locally and nationally, but I wonder whether enough is enough.

It has an annual capacity of 100 million passengers and 1.5+ million tonnes of cargo - surely it cannot keep growing?

The downside of course is pollution. With the flights, and the traffic it creates, plus the M25, M40, M4 and M3 nearby, not forgetting the main A roads, Colnbrooks massive Grundons's incinerator and a second one operated by DHL on the way - I wonder what hidden treasures we are creating for our kids(health issues) in the rush to provide resilient jobs for them.

Plus of course, in the sake of fairness, shouldn't some of the wealth associated by airport expansion be spread across the SE?

It doesn't really matter what any of us say, I am sure LHR will be expanded. UKPLC want it, including big business, LHR & many locals, and its the least worst option for politicians when it comes to losing votes (compared with upsetting some seagulls in the Thames estuary with a new airport), so it will happen

The only people in favour of Heathrow expansion is the chief executive of Heathrow limited and those who don't live close by. Hillingdon Council performed its own poll and the vast majority who bothered to reply were against it.

The other airports don't have to decimate existing communities and presumably don't currently have the gridlock we suffer already.

I am for it. It gives me my monthly wages as it does for Thousands of others either employed directly at the Airport or in a supporting role.
I have not been brain washed by working there, far from it. It's a job. But I do believe that Heathrow needs to grow to keep it's place as the UK's HUB Airport.
This also secures the job's of thousands of others who are either employed directly or in-directly at the Airport.
Take a look around, London Transport, Cutting out jobs with the removal of ticket halls and next the driverless trains, Banks taking away the cashiers and replacing them with machines. If this carries on we will all be unemployed. So if a major employee want's to grow and expand, creating thousands of new jobs, then I say YES.

I am for it as well. Looking at the alternatives, not doing anything at any of London's airports is missing a trick. The pie in the sky Boris airport is a non-starter, it's one thing building an airport and another building all the transport infrastructure to link it to a substantial population centre which would actually travel to use it - it would take decades to complete and is in totally the wrong place for the majority of southern citizens who would want to use it.

If it was actually built then Heathrow would be phased out over time and eventually close leaving the region with significantly less jobs than now. Maybe they are not the best service jobs, but they are jobs nonetheless. There are light-industrial areas of Hayes and its environs which have been lying derelict for decades, if Heathrow were to close it would face the same fate - it would not suddenly become some new Garden City overnight despite whatever Boris and his glossy presentations hint at. Soon after building a new airport in the middle of nowhere, population and development will occur around it and then after several decades we will again have the Heathrow problem - just in another location.

There are other arguments for why Gatwick or Stansted can't be expanded instead but I think the Heathrow Hub proposal is compelling. The current situation where planes are queuing up for 20-30 minutes to land is such a waste of fuel and time, totally dirty - is there an argument that if extra capacity was available and stacking could be eradicated it could lead to less overall pollution even considering the increase in traffic - given it would fly straight in and land rather than burning up fuel over the largest city in Europe?

Given the current infrastructure projects such as CrossRail, the Western Rail Access Programme on the Great Western and maybe HS2, these are bringing even more population into a one-hour travel radius of the airport so if it is expanded it would not only be convenient for a substantial population but the extra capacity would be used (as if that was in any doubt).

Yes, understand the disadvantages of having to bulldoze the Heathrow villages, but can't believe that people who have bought there in the last 20 years were not aware that expansion over their back gardens was not a real possibility.

Why no expand Northolt, sounds crazy, but they are putting the road back into Hayes Town Centre again.
Buses have conductors on some routes in London.
We even have little food bins once again in Hillingdon.
Strange how we seems to go round in a circle.
Other benefit if Boris was to purpose the expansion of Northolt it would soon see those who live North of the A.40 think twice about electing him as M.P. anyone want to start a rumour.
Also open up Northolt night bring back proper aircraft B.E.A. Vikings & Viscounts ones made in Britain.

Heathrow Villages this week. South Hayes (encroaching onto Hayes town centre) in 2035.

Trouble is where do you draw the line. Would you still support it if you lived in the villages or an area they have their beady eye on in the future.

The real solution is to separate freight from passenger traffic.

If they do get permission to expand then local housing will be required, prices will increase and I'll sell at a premium. I'm far enough out of the way to win.

But, even with a possible windfall I'm still against it. Look at the M25, M4, Hayes ByPass and no doubt other roads now. Almost permanent jams at critical times.

A runway in Hayes Town could be an improvement?
