Remember the old saying, 'charity begins at home', and I think many charity directors and managers have taken this to heart. I know of one person who refuses to travel anywhere except by first class, even by rail in UK, and stays in the best hotels. He says it enables him to be arrive fresher and better equipped to do his job!

Exactly, so think twice when you get a bucket rattled in your face in the local shopping centre.

30 charity chiefs paid more than £100,000
The leaders of some of the biggest charities risk bringing “the wider charitable world into disrepute” by taking large pay rises while donations are falling, according to the regulator.

Fresh demands to curb the salaries of fat cat charity bosses were made yesterday after it emerged that Save the Children is paying its top employee £234,000 a year.
The individual, believed to be chief executive Jasmine Whitbread, is among 20 employees earning more than £100,000 at the charity’s international body.

The row over the pay packets received by executives running Britain's charities was reignited yesterday after it was revealed that the head of one the UK's largest charities was paid more than £600,000.

Not that you would ever notice as your attention is distracted by the likes of Strictly and Celeb show trials.

Even the chuggers in the shopping malls are on performance related pay and bonuses for the numbers of people they sign up. Not to mention the fact that for a number of years now you have been able to donate directly from your salary/wages. The persons who went round the workplaces organising that little number were on performance bonuses as well.

I always tell them to do one.

Even a charity close to my heart is no immune from this. The RBL handsomely rewards it's top execs and this is something we have covered at Conference in the past. Poppy appeal money is ring fenced, every penny donated goes to the purpose it was intended for. Management pay and running costs are funded from member subscriptions.
