Exactly !

I know it's decades ago but I spent 5 years in military radar and there was always a recorded tracking system in place that almost covered the globe. This was not transponder based because any nasties wouldn't have one for obvious reasons. I was amazed when I saw the coverage. By interrogating this or any similar systems in place I'm sure they could detect a whole lot more than they are letting on.
I agree Kremmen. And if we include satellite tracking into the radar tracking system then it is reasonable to believe that nothing moves on this earth without the 'authorities' knowing about it.

Not knowing too much about the subject. But, how far can ground base radar see? I thought it was just line of sight. So once the plane is over the horizon, that's it.

Matthias Chang, prominent Malaysian lawyer, author and former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s political secretary and adviser.
Also wants to know why with so much radar and sophisticated satellite surveillance available that flight MH370 has not been located.

Dr Chang poses 15 questions in this report, and towards the end he says:
Quote:
Malaysia is a poor country lacking technology of America, Britain and Australia, Chang asserted, asking, ”How can a plane that took off in Malaysia going to Beijing ‘disappear” with all the technology at hand and even more SAR experts in the area at the time? “How can the United States of American, Britain, and Australia –  all the military powers – not be able to know where the plane is? NSA intercepts every phone call of every citizen in the world. America has launched a satellite that can detect the size of a coin and see underground bunker, yet today, there’s no information from these advanced satellites?”
“Everyone seems to focus on area near Australia. Look at the world map,” he commands. “A plane flying away from Kuala Lumpur, that went northward toward Thailand, turned back southward, then flew toward Andaman – any elementary school student would know it went toward Diego Garcia, the most sophisticated military air and naval base. It was used for wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam. Yet even the most advance data at that base cannot tell us where the plane is? Surely any plane going near there would be a threat to that base that also has nuclear submarines. No radar shows the plane was in that path? What happened to that radar and satellites?”

Diego Garcia - was a 9/11 type attack being planned? Was it shot down on its way there, hence the lack of public information?

We have the JORN system but I don't know how it missed anything.
It's all a bit suss.

They 'think' they may have found it, or at least a black box recorder ping

Diego Garcia is just a US Island naval base (UK territory but leased to the US). It wouldn't really be an attractive terrorist target as there is not much there, it is spread out and most people have never heard of it.

That aircraft could have crashed into anyone of half a dozen capital cities why risk flying to DG?

It does show up in google earth (sat picture version of google maps) but it easy top see the pictures have been photo-shopped.

The US and China know what happened or at least roughly where the aircraft is but cannot comment as it will betray the sophistication of their overhead monitoring systems.

Maybe the Chinese have 'manufactured' this particular ping at this particular spot as they know the aircraft went down there (from their other assets) and want to concentrate the international search operation there. It wouldn't be difficult for them to recreate something like that.
