Can just imagine the new inhabitants of that particular little zone, graphic designers, yummy mummies with their Chelsea tractors, architects, hipsters in the new media sectors, Kirsty and Phil from Channel 4 waiting to meet them all at the station.

......Hang on a minute, I think the drugs are wearing off

Free social housing for the eastern world more like

If Asda get permission on Fairey's site just across the road then they will need armed guards on the door

I think the closure of the Nestlé site has been known about since 2012, at least the area will smell nicer after its departure. It's a real opportunity to develop the area, if they build an estate similar to Holmesgate Place, Arena or the The Pavilions then it won't be that bad at all. Even another High Point Village would definitely an improvement on the eyesore that is currently there.

Does anybody know what is being built on the patch of wasteland in between Bull's Bridge Tesco and the railyway line next to the DHL depot?

Its the immigrants which keeps demand for new homes at top notch init....

This demand holds up prices and values for existing home-owners. Swings and roundabouts. Curtail immigration expect it to trickle down to the economy.
Which would you prefer?

One cannot occur without the other.... So yes it is almost certain the council allow PP for new homes on the site.

Think of all them extra council taxes for LBH coffers....... Great news doubles all round...

What I find strange we have fought two world wars defending our way of life, many have died, yet now we are giving it away, or selling it off, those who made the supreme, sacrifice must be turning in their graves, as what they gave their lives for, are being sold off to the highest bidder. :o :?
Britainia waves the rules.

Whilst only a nut job would have wanted the Nazis to win WW2, it's ironic that a British POW who'd have stayed over there, married a German lass and stayed would in all likelihood have enjoyed a better standard of living and environment that he would have had coming back over here. The Brits were on the winning side of the war but were the biggest losers of the peace that followed.

Let's not forget the other pressing housing problem of the 21st century: buy-to-let

I wonder how many of these new homes on the Nestle's site - especially the smaller/cheaper flats - will be snapped up by but to let landlords. I totally understand that with pensions being as reliable as a MP's promise, BTL is a sound way to secure an income if you are lucky enough to make that initial investment. But this phenomenon is keeping house prices and rental prices much higher than they otherwise would have been.

Without BTL landlords snapping up these properties like hungry brick eating locusts, simple supply and demand economics would come into play and prices would drop - in particular in the 1st time buyer market

My daughter recently rented a 1 bed flat in West Drayton at £850 per month. It's tiny, but with no other option, she and her boyfriend are spending just a little over 50% of their meagre salaries on this shoe box of a flat. Not the best position to save for a rainy day. Unfortunately they were both born here and both hold down full time jobs - not a great position to be in if you want any sort of state assistance.

She wants a kiddy in the next few years. God knows how. Unless me and Mrs SOT drop dead suddenly, thereby releasing our £millions ;) , both my 'kids' will struggle to get on the housing ladder

But in this day and age it seems that greed rules, and if you are not on the gravy train you are left behind

Nick Boles MP, the planning minister, blames the old for the housing crisis:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/hands- ... ister.html
Quote:
“One source absolutely, that is contentious in this House and elsewhere, has been immigration, which was uncontrolled for a very long period of time,” Mr Boles said. “But it’s important to remember the majority of that population growth, has not been as a result of immigration. The majority of that growth, about two thirds, has been as a result of ageing.
