I think this thread still has some time to run. We've not mentioned immigration or Edward Snowdon yet ;) ;)

You just have, shall we move onto HRH and his babycare issues ?

He reckons he's having a hard time when he's probably got a small army of child minders.

I remember when Safeway introduced the Self Scan system and then took it out. At Tesco Yeading when it was launched some junior spotty face manager asked me what I thought about the new system. I told him that it was old hat, and Safeways tried it over 10 years ago so you are wasting your time. I notice though if you go in there, they have more tills closed than they have open. That store is rubbish and has gone downhill. I also hear they are getting a new manager

I have all my various pensions and entitlements paid direct into my bank, and pay most bills by DD or card, then draw from machine whenever I want cash, it works for me, well all the time I can get out that is.

I referenced the Safeway nonsense in the original post. If Tesco go down the same route of picking out random shoppers for a spot check then it will soon fail. If they don't then stuff isn't going to get scanned is it ?
I've no intention of using it but I wonder how it works ?

The old system used product weight so you had to let it weigh your bag first, then wait for the assistant when you got it wrong

Just walking out with your goods without paying seems to be a viable option at that newish Tesco's under that white elephant apartment complex near Hayes Station.

P.S the best feeling in Hayes is being sat on a train pulling out of that place.

No but the in-laws had one as their local. he would go round scanning things and also making a mental note of the cost to see if it added up, he was like a big kid.

The theory was that you then put the scanner into a receiver and paid what it asked.

As I said, the big problem that put it to bed was that they were trusting that you had scanned everything. To try and deter shoplifters they would pick people out at random to go through a normal checkout to 'double check'. People got so cheesed off with this that they abandoned the scanners in droves so they were forced to go back to checkouts.

I'm waiting to be asked/told to use a scanner because they have no checkouts open. I'll scan absolutely everything, get it to come to thousands and tell them they have an issue. I may even drop it and claim arthritis. I may also not scan anything blaming technology. Wonder if you can scan one of the 60" TV's that would obviously not be in one of the bags?

The possibilities for a play

all we need is more staff
and do the job , but now , no
why cant dustbin men just collect my rubish , no different bags etc , just take it
go to a big shop , serve me take my money , its easy
if the postman finds me out leave it next next door , they used to , not now
used to be able to drive up a high street , and see the shop you want , stop somewhere and buy something , not now
your commited to parking up PAYING to park and spend half an hour or so finding the right shop
you cant ever just fill your car with fuel , the station is busy serving food ??
its was so easy , until greed took over
