Figures from Utilyx, the energy consultants and traders, forecast a 58pc rise in the cost of power by 2020, largely driven by the impending avalanche of green taxes due to come into force over the next 10 years.
The consultants estimate that 18pc of the current electricity price relates to climate change policies – or £15 per megawatt-hour out of a £82 per megawatt-hour average.
However, green taxes and new infrastructure costs will constitute 38pc of the charges, or £50 per megawatt-hour out of £130 per mega-watt hour, by 2020.
Assuming the above figures are correct, £18 of every £100 of current electricity bills are due to green taxes that are imposed by government and the EU. Then there is VAT at 5% on top of the whole. So at current prices it is very likely that for every £100 on our electricity bill about 23% of the price is due to government tax.
If we project forward to 2020 then we are to expect a rise in prices of 58% on current prices due to green taxes alone, that is without any rise in fuel prices, increased profit margins, and so-called infrastructure investment charges.
With only green tax price increases, a £100 bill at today's prices, in 2020 will be £158. Before VAT at 5% is added the price will be £150. Where about £68 of the price will be made up of green taxes. Which approximately equates to £45 of green taxes for every £100 electricity bill; then you add the 5% VAT, which means that half the 2020 electricity bill will consist of tax. All that is without any price increase for fuel, investment charges, and profit margin increases.
The future looks horrendous for energy prices, and the whole of the UK economy. These insane and treasonable politically inspired green taxes are not only inflicting misery on the private lives of ordinary people, they will destroy any hopes of the UK economy ever improving.
