Look at it this way.
It's just that it's analagous to rushing down the stairs after hearing the letterbox rattle, expecting an important letter, only to find that it's just more junk mail, which can be annoying and very frustrating.

Simply that when you subscribe to a thread, you are notified by e-mail when a new post has been made.
So you don't have to keep going back to a thread unneccessarily or you don't unless it's just a load of pointless smilies.

It's a bit like these people who have "PIR" (body heat sensors) that switch the light on as you approach the front door. But, have it set so the light comes on every time somebody walks down the street.

as I am retired with loads of spare time I log in most days, I usually have something to say as having moved into Hayes in 1938 schooled at Yeading Lane, then Mellow lane, went through the WW2 here had umpteen jobs here, and now consider as my home town rather than Fulham where I was born, so have seen so many changes from. Trams to Trolley busses, to Diesel busses along the Uxbridge road. the Belmore farm now the shopping parade, Gough the builder had two show houses on the corner of Shakespeare ave, the underground air raid shelters on the Uxbridge rd now flats and also before them Billy Smarts fairground and fair grounds,
