Margaret Hodge the chair of the Parliamentary committee whose face you probably saw on the news today questioning the likes of google and Amazon was front and centre over the Parliamentary expenses scandal..

The fact this along with the tax avoidance is getting airtime now is to make the so called plebs think something is being done when the opposite is actually the case.
I fully agree!

As for the tax avoidance thing it must be remembered that these firms have done absolutely nothing wrong. They (and their accountants) work fully within the tax rules, and have the knowledge and expertise to take full advantage of that. Like it or not that is simply the way it is and if I was a shareholder in either of these firms (I am not) I would be expecting them to do this. I certainly don't blame them.
I don't know whether the corporates have actually done anything wrong or not. Certainly, the bankers and MPs have done a lot to cause us to distrust both the corporate sector and the establishment - the public sector. However, I do know that I have done nothing wrong as far as HMRC are concerned, and yet they persecute me with a vengeance. It is this one-sidedness on HMRC's part that is completely out-of-order. I know a lot of other pensioners in my situation who are receiving the same unnecessary heavy-handedness from HMRC. My wife is also currently in dispute with HMRC for another £250 of supposedly unpaid Income Tax. HMRC are giving the definite appearance of setting about pensioners, probably in the expectation that many pensioners will prove to be easy pickings. The situation isn't helped when HMRC can take several weeks, even months sometimes, to respond to a letter. HMRC are not only incompetent, they are rude to the point of ignorance in the way they delay and delay. Since HMRC are a Government Agency, their behaviour inevitably reflects badly on all the politicians.
My primary reason for describing HMRC's treatment of myself is to broadcast to other pensioners and would-be pensioners that they need to be aware of HMRC's tactics. Don't blindly accept the figures HMRC send you. Become familiar with the tax system as far as it affects each of us personally. Learn to calculate your own tax liability. And when you discover that HMRC are in the wrong, challenge them with good and honest numbers. Be aware that HMRC and the Government are NOT on our side – and cannot be trusted. Polticians are ultimately responsible for HMRC; and politicians have thoroughly publicised their lack of financial probity.

Back to Margaret Hodge. She was rather condescending today in her comments in trying to point the finger at these people when it is in fact her and her ilk which are part of the problem. They create the regulatory environment that they operate in and it is beyond hypocritical to criticise them for taking full advantage of it.
Margaret Hodge is grand-standing, playing to the TV audience. She is performing the role of the political elite's toothless and stuffed bulldog. She is making a lot of pre-recorded noise in order to convince the electorate that somebody within the corruption called Westminster really is on the side of the little people. The whole thing was stage-managed from beginning to end. We know that politians can lie without so much as blinking. We know that politicians can be fraudulent. We know that politicians do engage in treason (the EU project). They have given us every reason to automatically disbelieve them, to thoroughly distrust them and their Government agencies.

This story doesn't enhance the image of greedy corporates:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... rists.html

Quote:
Speculators and ‘shady middle men’ are driving up petrol prices, a damning report reveals today.
As the scandal of alleged price-fixing by major oil companies deepens, the AA reveals how traders are hitting fuel prices – causing three steep rises this year alone and increasing the cost of filling up a family saloon by £5.
Few of the traders’ names – including Glencore, Cargill, Gunvor and Trafigura – are known to consumers outside the oil industry, but their effect on Britain’s 33million motorists and the wider economy is profound.
They buy huge quantities of petroleum on the open market and store it until the price goes high enough to make them a handsome profit, at which point they sell.
Industry experts say motorists have been fleeced by an average of at least £2,000 each and probably much more over the past decade because of the alleged price-fixing now under investigation. But watchdogs should also ‘shine a bright light’ on the activities of speculators chasing ‘inflated short-term profit’, says the AA.

Here are links to the four corporates mention in the above report:

Seems your suspicions Westonman are well founded..

I have no doubt that ATOS + HMRC are working to a brief and ' to get the takings up' or the benefits down.

I don't necessarily dispute the work of ATOS as clearly there has been widespread abuse of the benefits system over the years and Labour are mainly to blame for not doing something about it during their 13 years of power.
In any event ATOS rulings have an appeal path, the same cannot be said about HMRC ones.

Geezer, the experiences of myself, my wife, and many pensioner friends and associates strongly implies that our opinions are not “suspicions”, but close to being proven as fact. We all make mistakes, but mistakes should be the exception, not the rule. HMRC specialise in making the same 'mistakes' EVERY year; that comes close to being factual evidence to suggest they are working to a rule – a plan.

I say again. Anybody receiving a tax demand for 'underpaid' Income Tax should take great care to do their own calculations, and NOT trust HMRC's numbers by default. This month, with one phone call and one letter to HMRC I reduced HMRC's demand for 'unpaid' Income Tax from £394 to £4.60. And now HMRC are threatening me with interest on that £4.60.

Let us make it very clear where ALL the blame and responsibility lays for inaccurate and fraudulent tax demands from HMRC. HMRC are an agency responsible to HM Treasury. HM Treasury are under the direction of the political elite such as Daniel Alexander MP, George Osborne MP, and David Gauke MP. These people have been in power for over three years now, and nothing has improved within HMRC in that time. If anything, things have degenerated within HMRC over the last three years. HMRC is currently headed up by a Lynn Homer. Lynn Homer is Common Purpose trained, she has a disastrous and long record of failure in 'public service'. David Cameron MP has voiced his support and confidence in Lynn Homer, even though she failed big-time at the Border Agency. It would appear that Cameron appreciates failure.

So now we know who to hold responsible for the political persecution of pensioners and the low paid by HMRC. Yes, we know Labour fowled up big time with the economy and the tax/benefit system. But the Lib-Cons are NO better than Labour. If anything, the Lib-Cons have learned a few tricks from Labour's 'failures'.

The common factor coming out of Common Purpose trained people IS failure. It is very hard to not to conclude that the destruction of the public sector is the aim of the political elite, whilst persecuting the most vulnerable at the same time. We see a similar policy being worked out in the NHS - failure of the sytem and the persecution of the vulnerable. The education system is not any better either. And as for the Border Agency, that has become a complete joke.

Westonman's experiences with HMRC are shocking but come as no suprise and I wish him well with his fight against them. Don't even get me started on ATOS.

It took me 8 weeks to receive one solitary ESA payment from the DWP, and it has taken one moment of incompetence by ATOS to have my future payments suspended, even then I wasn't notified of that fact. Its all I can do to try and fight my medical condition, let alone the insanity of 'the system'.

Some unpleasant ATOS stories here: http://atosvictimsgroup.co.uk/

ATOS, CAPITA, G4S, foreign owned energy and water companies, planned road tolling by private companies, Air & Sea rescue, Coastguards; all have two things in common.

1: They are all engaged in asset stripping of taxpayer funded infrastructure for private gain.

2: The new privatised businesses are operated by dehumanised, get-rich-quick, low empathy people – often with close ties to the politicians who engineered the privatisation policy.

The same policies are now being applied in Education, NHS, and the police.

Private funding and the police are on the way:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... udget.html

Question: Who would a privately funded police 'service' work for? For sure, not for the protection and benefit of the British people.

Bus lanes are a perfect example of theft of taxpayer funded roads that are then handed over to for-profit private bus companies. Local authorities then make further profit out of fining private drivers for driving in a bus lane that was originally paid for out of drivers' taxes. The next step is for tolls on all major roads that were funded with taxpayers' money. Theft, asset stripping, and probable foreign ownership are the end-game for all taxpayer funded assets. With foreign owners having no concern for the economic destruction they inflict on the British people – just like the foreign-owned energy companies are now destroying the British economy with the full blessing of the Europhile Westminster-based politicians.

The process is called 'globalisation'. Which is a deceitful term to describe the destruction of the nation state in favour of a developing Fascist one-world government, that has no compassion or concern for the well-being of ordinary people.

Back to topic, the oil and gas companies are working towards the same globalist fascist system, where global control of the masses, and huge profits for a relatively small elite fit the pattern.

And one I regularly contribute to......willingly. Its surely only a matter of time though before some asset stripping, hedge funding, globalising conglomerate corporation with government ministers in its back pocket realises the potential profit to be made from this very worthy group of volunteers ??

Thanks for the link above Westonman. I will be reading that with interest. Good luck with HMRC.

I have been menaing to write a post about charities for a while now I will do so soon and provide some links.

Even the charity commission are becoming concerned that charities and one of them is names here, are becoming more like a business. High earnings for the people at the top of it and minimal returns to the charity itself.

Its like the tail is beginning to wag the dog. Great work if you can raise £20 odd million in a good name for a good cause then spend £18 million of it in administration and wages.

I feel sorry (not) for the charity door bangers. I do give them a hard time simply because I have better things to do than be pestered at my own front door with people trying to get money out of me.

I do often have a play though.

Last one got the 'I have no money in the house' (true actually) followed by 'I'm a bankrupt and don't have a bank account' when they wanted details for a direct debit. Oh what fun !
