Some quite intense thunderstorms are developing along the South Coast this morning ( Wednesday ) and current indications are these could spread further inland during this afternoon. Its a very unstable airmass over the UK at the moment. Upper air temperatures are exceptionally cold for this time of year, and this could lead to further torrential downpours as the week progresses.

Summer is cancelled for the time being, though there are signs of a slight improvement just beyond the weekend.

Im reading reports of some quite spectacular thunderstorms across the South East today. The South Coast from Bournemouth to Folkestone, and a stretch of the M25 from Surrey to Kent appear to have been in the firing line. Numerous reports of flooding in the Reigate and Redhill areas, as a 'train' of storms swept through the region.

There is some good footage of these storms on You Tube, and reports can be found on Netweather.tv...Ukweatherworld.co.uk and The weather outlook.com.

Looking ahead this could be the pattern for the next few days , with yet another Low Pressure system heading our way towards the weekend. A brief respite may follow at the beginning of next week as a ridge of High Pressure builds, but confidence in this is low at the moment.

Hey !! Its been a while since I've posted, mainly due to work committments, but also due to the fact I didn't feel able post anything positive. Well that is hopefully about to change in the near future.

Anyone who follows the weather forecasts to any extent may be aware of the Jet Stream. Throughout the summer so far the Jet Stream has been to our south, leading to a near continuous run of Low Pressure systems crossing the UK, with the resultant grey and gloomy skies, and some record breaking rainfall for many parts, including the South East.

Well, there is now growing confidence that the Jet Stream will finally shift further north, allowing the Azores High to build, and develop across the UK towards this coming weekend. Between now and then we could be in for a fairly rough ride, with a chance of thundery showers, especially on Thursday.

Beyond that though, I will stick my neck out and predict a spell of settled and summery weather, just in time for the Olympics.

Thanks as always for reading and posting.

You might want to revisit your forecast as I'm intending to wash the car Saturday. First time for about 6 weeks.

Hi Pam, thanks for reading and posting.

Its all to play for next week, with the distinct possibilty of a ridge of High Pressure over the UK, and some very warm upper air temperatures. That should translate to warmer air at ground level. I have seen some forecasts suggesting temperatures reaching 32c ( 90f ) in London and the South East next week but I have my doubts based on current information.

I wouldn't rule out temperatures reaching some very respectable levels through next week though. 24-26cc ( 75-79f) may well be reached. Lets just hope the Jet Stream stays up north now !!
