Please dont't quote me on that Chris....the weather is in a state of flux to say the least.

Just a quick update from me.

The predicted steady and at times heavy rainfall for London and The South East on Sunday has arrived, but a few hours earlier than expected. So.... Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday morning some places in our region will see anything up to 30mm's ( just over an inch ) of rain. The worst of this should clear our region by about 8-9am Sunday, to be followed by occasional showers for some.

There are signs of a brief spell of something more settled and slightly warmer at the beginning of next week, the sun might even make an appearance from Monday, with temperatures possibly in the range of 21-24c ( 70-75f ). Going back to that old adage of 3 fine days and a thunderstorm though, my attention is certainly drawn to next Thursday, June 28th. The model runs and charts currently available are showing the potential for a very thundery breakdown from Wednesday night and into Thursday if I am reading them correctly.

Its impossible to say this far away, but I think its worth a mention for now, and certainly something I will be keeping a close eye on. Thanks as always for reading and posting, and enjoy the rest of your weekend, whatever the weather.

My sister got a seriously huge puddle inside her car overnight. She's not sure how the rain got in but I think it must have rained heavily where she lives (Tenby, Wales)

Sunshine, I have checked a number of websites but I cannot find anything to suggest there was any exceptional rainfall in the Tenby area during that time, so no idea why your sisters car would be flooded ??!!

Sunday saw some very heavy downpours in our region, and I got soaked walking the fairly short distance from the car park to my workplace mid afternoon, but its the prospects for midweek I am more interested in. The threat of some quite severe weather remains in place for Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures are still expected to rise during this week as we draw in some warmer air from the near continent, and this could lead to a lively mix as the next Atlantic low pressure system heads from the west around the same time.

Initially I will be looking to the south on Wednesday night for some 'imported' thunderstorms crossing the English Channel from France, but into Thursday there are currently some fairly strong indications that thunderstorms will readily develop across the UK, some of them quite severe in nature.

As this coincides with my rest days its something I will be keeping a close eye on, and possibly storm chasing.

Thanks for reading. Moley 8-)

Phew, just finished my 7 day shift stint and Im looking forward to 3 days off now before the next 7. :) . Part of me wants to use that time to relax and unwind, but Im still drawn to the prospect of some quite severe weather developing across the UK in the next couple of days. I never did manage to join any of the USA storm chasing trips this year or last, so I will gladly settle for something closer to home.

Well tonight ( Monday ) I have been looking at a number of charts and model runs and it seems the ingredients are still in place for some potentially lively weather occurring quite widely across much of the country from Wednesday. This is how I see things given the current information available:

Tuesday will see a low risk of the occasional shower in London and the South East, but the Low Pressure system approaching us from the west will draw up some very warm air from the near continent. As we progress through Tuesday and Wednesday I expect temperatures and humidity levels to increase quite noticably in our region.

On Wednesday the Low is knocking on our doorstep, and its bringing a cold front with it loaded with moisture from the Atlantic. Its impossible at this time to say where the clash between the two airmasses will take place, some models are suggesting further east, into mainland Europe, while other models are suggesting it could be right above the UK. Hints of a disturbance in The Bay of Biscay are just adding to the uncertainty at this time. It literally is all up in the air.

At this time I will take a gamble on The South East seeing some 'imported' thunderstorms coming up from France on Wednesday, with more widespread and 'homegrown' thunderstorms breaking out across the UK on Thursday. The Met Office are predicting these will mostly affect Northern England.

Its all to play for, and I will try and keep this topic updated, bearing in mind if conditions are favourable I may be out on the road stormchasing !!

In the meantime, thanks for reading and posting. Your reports of the weather in your locality are very much appreciated.

Just to add to my last post.

It almost goes without saying that after the projected warmth of midweek, once the storms have passed through on Thursday, we are back to a cooler spell of weather just in time for the weekend. Temperatures in London and The South East will be around 16-19c ( 61-66f ), accompanied by some blustery winds and showers.

I will be looking at the prospects for July in the next few days, fingers crossed for some signs of summer.

Some overnight rain has left a deposit of Sahara Desert sand on my car and temperatures have risen quite rapidly in the last few hours. My back garden weather station is currently recording 28.1c but I know it over reads by a couple of degrees. Raf Northolt reported 25.6c at mid-day.

The atmosphere is absolutely saturated at the moment, with a dewpoint here of 22.2c. The display on my weather station says " Stormy, much precipitation". Thunderstorms are now breaking out quite widely, especially in The Midlands. Lightning detectors are showing over 4000 strikes an hour in some locations.

All the ingredients are in place, its simply a matter of the fuse being lit in London and the South East for everything to go boom !!

Some serious conditions being reported in various parts of the country now. A reported tornado in Leicestershire, flash flooding in a number of places and baseball sized hail. Meanwhile all is quiet here down South.
