My mum used to have one and called it a "wringer". She also had a scrubbing board. (I wonder what she did with them?)

Unfortunately, I have neither so have to use the big white monster out in the kitchen.

Thinking about it - the kitchen in our flat in Northolt was very basic with a big Belfast sink, wooden draining board, gas cooker and a table and chairs. Cupboards were just a larder and a couple of wall units. So different from modern kitchens ........
