The problems Asda had trying to get permission for one with plenty of car park space and on a 4 way crossroad and here's Lidl opening or rather shoe-horning one in where parking and access is going to be a real problem. |

The reason Asda had problems was because the site needed to be rezoned from an industrial/business site to a retail/leisure site, there were concerns that rezoning would lose valuable land intended for industrial use. Lidl had it easy because the previous site was not zoned for industrial use. Anyhow, the report mentions that they are only going to use half of it with the remaining intended to be sold off to a developer. |

How long before the supermarkets start offering homes to rent inside their vast stores? |

We are heading towards a hollowed out town with a boarded up high street surrounded by supermarkets. But at least it will be pedestrianised... I think they should start to turn some of the existing buildings at either end of the high street into housing. They should have build the new Lake Farm school on the old swimming pool site instead of green belt land, but that would have been sensible... |
