Can anyone help me? I am trying to find the birth mother, siblings, family of a boy that was left on 21 April 1943 at Hayes Railway Station. He was approx 2 months old and would have been born in the February of 1943. Does anyone know of a story that has been passed down? It is a long shot but i have exhausted all the records that have been documented and am now hoping that i can jog someones memory. I would love to hear from you if you have any information. Many thanks Tracey |

Wow, what a fascinating request. Do hope something comes of it. I see you've also posted further details here: http://www.missing-you.net/people/henry ... 136561.php Could I suggest you also email this request to memories@hayesmiddlesex.com which will send it out on our Yahoogroup. Also, you could email the local papers using the address press@hayesmiddlesex.com either asking them to print your request as a reader's letter or to ask if they'd like to do an article on it. |

Hello and thank you for your reply Jon. I will send a message to the yahoo group. I could only find one local newspaper for hayes/uxbridge which is the gazette. They printed a letter to editor for me, and i found the grand-daughter and niece of the man who found him!! His name was a Harold J Coole. Unfortunately, i was told that Harold had been gassed twice in the war and didnt speak to anyone, so i am assuming that he kept the story to himself which is sad as they grand-daughter and niece were really shocked when they found out what he had done all those years ago. The Gazette didnt offer to run a story, even though i dropped hints! We have been in contact with two other papers online, one being local london online and i cannot remember the other but they havent got back to me and its been a while now. We have also looked through the newspaper archives in uxbridge to see if a story was published but it wasnt. I think our only hope now is to get our story out there through pages like this and hopefully someone might know something. I also wonder if his mother came from the Hayes area? She may have caught a train to Hayes and left him and then went back home, wherever that was. Many thanks. |

Hi Tracy I was talking to someone about this interesting but sad story and she didn't remember anything about it being reported at the time or spoken about. She did remember, though, that the midwife in the Hayes area was a Nurse Martin. If the birth was not secret and a midwife had delivered the baby, there could be midwive's records somewhere which could be of help or maybe not. The latter if the baby was taken to Hayes from somewhere else. Just an idea. Good Luck with your search. Best Wishes Marian |

Hi Marion, thank you for your response. If only i could look at the files, but unfortunately I assume they will be with the doctor? What a shame i couldnt ask Nurse Martin now if she remembers a lady that had a baby either unmarried or whilst hubbie was away at war? (I can only assume she wasnt in a happy marriage? This is a good idea but i just wouldnt know where to start looking? I was speaking to the lady at the register office and she came to the conclusion that the baby never got registered as she gave it up when he was due to be registered and wondered if she panicked and left the baby so as to not get in trouble. She was thinking that she had him without anyone's knowledge. There are 1,001 births registered in the uxbridge area for the time he was born (Jan/Feb/Mar). A percentage of that are female. He could be anyone of those boys registered and it would take me forever to work out if they stayed with the mother. If a census had been done in 1950 i could give it a go! If you think of anything else or know any elderly people around at that time to ask the question, i really appreciate it if you could ask them! Many thanks Tracey |

You're welcome, Tracey I looked to see about records for nurses and there are some linked with the RCN. I also saw that there are records for Uxbridge and that area in the local archives. As you said, you may not find the information you want even if you found details of the midwives working in the area as Nurse Martin was, but, sometimes one idea leads to another. I just thought that there could be diary notes or something somewhere. You must have been working very hard and was good to see some relations were found. That in itself must have been rewarding for you. Take care Marian |

This is fascinating. I really think that if you contact the Gazette again and explain it all they will run your story. Good luck !!!! |

Tracey Have you any details at all that would help in a search. Names, dates and so on? I am not asking you to post them here, but I do know somebody who tracks down missing relatives and helps with family trees etc - almost for a hobby - and she is very successful. I haven't a clue how she does it, but I know she uses the web, & public records. If you are interested, PM me you e-mail address and I will get her to contact you |

Hello again, Tracey You could also post the story under the Hayes Station photo on the Photos section, which you can get to at the top of this page. The Sceenyclan has a lot of interesting information about Hayes. Best Wishes Marian |

Hello and thank you or your replies. SOT, the lady wouldnt be Jane by any chance. I have absolutely no details whatsoever!!! I only have the birth certificate that was issued when he was found. I doubt we will find him through the records and it will be someone who knew his mother that can help us now. Sunshine, the gazette are not interested, i dropped enough hints and didnt want to pester anymore. Perhaps i may leave it a little while and get back in touch. Marion, I will post a message on there thank you. I keep looking for medical records and found a site but he wasnt on there. Ive been in touch with the salvation army and they know nothing. I am goin to see if the police have anything on file and when i get a moments peace i will phone them! Any other ideas are gratefully received! Thank you |
