If Heathrow has to cancel 20% of flights , to allow for more separation ,between aeroplanes , for safety
why not just run the airport longer for a while , into the early hours of the morning
to clear the back log , and if other Europe airports did the same , it would work

Don't think the locals would be too happy!

its only for a short time , how can they object ?
they same people would not be happy if their flights were cancelled , for a holiday
another reason for an extra runway

My son used to live in Stanwell and the noise from the planes there was dreadful. People living under the flight path deserve a bit of peace and quiet in the small hours I think

And it shows that 3 runways would be ridiculous ! We can't keep 2 open so adding another would just mean more cancelled flights ;)

Sounds like LHR solved the problems of the snowfall closures of 2010 by buying a lot more snow clearing equipment to keep the runways and taxi ways clear....

All in all they have done a good job with this and kept them relatively clear. Shame they forgot about the de-icing kit where many captains have been waiting for up to 4 or 5 hours for the de-ice truck to reach their aircraft.

This is what is causing the delays not the poor visibility they are touting on the media......
