…and end of final salary pension schemes.

The political elite of all three parties really do hate pensioners and their pensions.

Wealth redistribution:
Quote:
According to Hargreaves Lansdowne, a financial services firm, an employee on £25,000 will pay an extra £270 a year in national insurance. For someone paid £40,000, the increase will be £481.
Large organisations, including the NHS, will also have to increase their employer’s national insurance contributions by as much as 3.4p in the pound.
The biggest beneficiaries of the flat-rate pension will be part-time workers, carers and people who take time out of work to bring up their children. The self-employed could also gain. But some higher-paid workers will get a smaller state pension than they would have received under current rules.

End of final salary pensions?
Quote:
Employers who offer final salary pensions face much larger increases in their national insurance payments.
For each worker paid £25,000, an employer could have to contribute an extra £657. For a worker paid £40,000, the employer’s increase will be £1,168.
Those costs have led to warnings that many of the 6,300 or so remaining final salary schemes in the private sector will be forced to close.

Just one more reason to dump them in the trash bin, and give somebody else a chance, they could not possibly be worse than the three stooges, that take turns to drag us further into the mire. :) :)

The population has been swelled beyond the ability of the state to cater for it in its old age.

Let's pop back to the 70's and decades prior to that..

We enjoyed a much smaller State and by definition public service.
Immigration was mush lower with the majority coming in from the ex vestiges of empire.
Persons died at a younger age, subsequently the overall pensions bill was much smaller.

Since then we have joined the Common market which (we were promised at the time) would allow foreign firms to come to Britain to set up and create jobs. As it turned out it was a dismal failure in that regard.

It's been great for putting their excess workforce (in Britain) but your factory - no? And this of course does not assist the Pension crisis.

We are and have been living beyond our means for years. Measures like are not right but they are understandable.

Politicians have been making promises for decades and like mugs we all believed them. They did create jobs but at the same time swelled the size of the State and by doing so the liability on the taxpayer.

I see noises are now being made about withdrawing the cold weather allowance and free bus travel after the next election.... I will be most surprised if they do not proceed on that measure.
