I seem to remember just a few DAYS ago Cameron was calling for energy companies to make sure consumers were put on the lowest tariff available, and indeed hinted the government would take steps to ensure this happened.

How then, can he possibly justify this ? :

I have been around long enough to know that government promises aren't worth a flying fig, and that u-turns are common place ( eu referendum anyone ? ), but this takes it to a whole new level.

If Cameron was even remotely serious or concerned about the fact folk are really struggling to meet the cost of keeping warm he would scrap ALL 'green' taxes and VAT on energy bills immediately. But of course he's not.

I wondered about that too. I just changed my supplier to one with a fixed tariff for 14 months but that's all out of the window with the rise in green tax.

At least I have a cheaper supplier ........

They can justify it on the basis the propaganda has been of such a quality that most people have bought into the climate change agenda.

Depending on your politics this is the downside of the coalition government. The Lib Dems support the agenda so will have insisted the measure go into the bill, whereas a whole Tory Government would very possibly have dropped it completely. (Osbourne has been making noises about the cost of windfarms ext are not justified). A Labour Government would have rolled over to the climate change lobby as they always do.

Of course a full Tory Government would have strengthened Camerons hand in the Euro budget negotiations. He would have a much better mandate to tell those looking for an increase to naff off.

it's the same with petrol/diesel, the more it costs the more % they take and yet they still add on more tax on top of that.

It makes my blood boil. I know families who already CANNOT AFFORD TO PUT THEIR HEATING ON. It makes me sick these idiot politicians with their fiddles and expenses coming on the radio talking about green this and clean that when it's all hogwash and the reality is ordinary people are having their lives ruined for no good reason.

I haven't put my heating on yet and will delay it for as long as possible. The one thing that annoys me is that you pay a standing charge for a meter, mine was installed in 1995, now surely the cost of the meter has already been covered yet I am still charged for it. The worse company are the water companies if you are on a meter. Your bill for water covers a standing charge for the meter which ok I accept but then Thames water charge you for waste water and charge you a standing charge for the same meter. this cant be fair as you only have 1 meter so why have to pay 2 companies for it. I rang them once and asked how they measure my waste water and they said they just estimated what would be considered a normal percentage of water going into a house would come out as waste, hence they charge for the meter.

I told them I have no waste water as I re use all water in my house, but they would not accept that

Time we had a real government, by the people, for the people, instead of the whats in it for me crowd, how on earth can a politician getting multi thousands a year possibly more with outside interests, understand, how the bread and butter ordinary folk manage on a pension so outdated they have to save up to weigh themselves ? :( :( :( :(

The deceit and hypocrisy of the political class is staggering; they have absolutely no sense of shame. Whilst Yeo condones the green tax on energy for ordinary folk already struggling to survive:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy ... qus_thread
Quote:
Tim Yeo, the Conservative MP leading the Energy Committee, said it is sensible to ask households and businesses to pay £7.6 billion a year within eight years towards the cost of building “greener" power stations as prices are “going to go up no matter what”.
According to official Department of Energy figures, bills will go up by an estimated £178 a year by 2030 under the Government’s green and fuel poverty policies, with the contribution to nuclear and renewables making up £95 by 2020.

Yeo's green INCOME from green taxes/subsidies is eye-watering:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politic ... links.html
Quote:
MPs on the Government committee were said to be plotting to remove Mr Yeo as chairman over his £140,000-a-year earnings from green power companies.
Quote:
Mr Yeo, who is also president of the Renewable Energy Association, received more than £139,450 from power firms, according to the MPs' register of interests.
Quote:
As chairman of biofuel company TMO Renewables, Mr Yeo earned £68,000 in a year while he was also paid £55,450 for working for AFC Energy.
Quote:
The register showed an additional income of £16,000 from Eco City Vehicles.
