![]() http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-20001098 Quote: Fire crews in York have freed a lorry after it became stuck under one of the city's medieval gateways. The Marks and Spencer lorry was travelling through the central arch of the 12th Century Micklegate Bar on Thursday night when it got stuck. Looks like Marks and Sparks have gone down the route of employing Eastern European agency drivers..... (Who follow their Sat Navs religiously irrespective of what weight or height limits get in the way) |

Tesco used european drivers as well and they use sat nav's, problem is the sat nav's are in English and the drivers dont know English. It's all down to the fact these drivers cost less but they cause more problems. |

It shows a distinct lack of forward planning by some 12th century civil servant. |

Let's hope M&S get saddled with the restoration bill. With laser/radar technology and the cost of trucks, wouldn't you think they would have developed some form of low bridge warning system by now ? Some bridges have them when they detect an oversize vehicle approaching. |

The low bridge in South Ruislip has a detector nearby and if a tall vehicle approaches a flashing warning sign lights up to warn the driver he should check that he can drive under the low bridge. It seems to work |
