Isn't it funny how so much fuss was made of a girl who ran away voluntarily, but the poor girls who are groomed by certain
people and social services say that these girls make life decisions, they are still below the legal age of consent, and the police look the other way.I do not condone what the girl did it was wrong but it does show the gap between the two worlds.

There was a report on the BBC news just after they were discussing the Megan Stammers story which discussed the rise (3% I think) of kids being taken into care, The figure is now 68,000 in the UK.

It made me think that if 68,000 are now in the care of the LA, how many kids are there that just miss out of being taken into care and are living miserable existences with drug addict or alcoholic parents, violent fathers. paedophile partners or with these suffering enduring mental health issues? It's a terrible thought.

I once reported a family living in Southall that I met when attending an emergency. The flat was filthy and full of rubbish. The Mum and her boyfriend were drunk, filthy and emaciated, as was a little girl who was about 9, I will never forget her face and big eyes which stood out from her grubby face. There was something in her face which had the hopelessness and trauma of those in concentration camps. My boss told me I had no evidence so forget it, but I reported the situation to Ealing council the next day.

At least Megan was being looked after by some misguided & foolish teacher, while 10s of thousands of kids are living in hell with little chance of any improvement.

Dont get me wrong, this teacher has abused his position and perhaps ruined a young life and what he has done is wrong and I do not condone it whatsoever,

Megan was groomed by a teacher - somebody she should have been able to trust. That's what makes this girl headline news.

Luckily the two of them have been found and Megan is being brought home while her "teacher" is being dealt with. We should be able to trust the people who are teaching our children and this guy has broken that trust. Hopefully, he will never be able to get another teaching job.

The Rochdale report was breathtaking in its blaise attitude towards those young girls....

The age of consent in this country is 16 and anyone under that age is a child. The offence was statutory rape how they come to accept that under age children were acting as 'prostitutes' was breathtaking in its arrogance.

Whoever decided that these children had made a lifestyle choice should not just be sacked but be arrested for assisting paedophiles to abuse children.

As for this case clearly the teacher has betrayed the level of trust placed in him. Yes he will be dragged over the coals and if he has had relations with that girl be charged with statutory rape and rightly so. We cannot be having one law for one and another law for another.

I remember posting some Months ago when this case first broke that there were a significant number of others waiting to come before the Courts. I see this evening one of them has..

Another nine in Oxford.... and unsurprisingly, it doesn't sound like they're Jehovah's Witnesses.

The bottom line is that we need more prison capacity to give real sentences to these morons.

Well said Geezer and Kremmen. If people abusing underage girls got punished properly (not just a slapped wrist) then I'm sure others would think twice about doing it.

The trouble is and by posting this I will be labelled racist by some people there is a real problem in some ethnic sections of our communities.

Some of these people (and I do not generalise) see these young girls as 'fair game'. Now is that a cultural thing or what I don't know but clearly it is behaviour which may be acceptable elsewhere in the world but it very much despised in the UK.

Part of the failings in Rochdale and other cases in the north of England (google Charlene Downes) is because the police were told to back off in the worry that a fully fledged investigation would determine just how much of a problem this is.

Matters apparently made a lot worse by a criminal justice system that is in total denial and is immobilised into inactivity for fear of being branded racist. Even faced with the facts and the statistics of which they are normally so enamoured, they continue to refuse to acknowledge that a very considerable problem exists.

As I said above there are a number of cases like the Rochdale/Oldham one in the justice system waiting to come before the courts the nine we saw yesterday are but the first. The Telegraph alluded to the fact a few Months ago but never repeated the claim probably because they were leant on!

ALL things are relative, its all the goose and gander thingie, where what is good for one is not good for another one, what this couple did in England was illegal, in France the age of consent is younger, so where is the law on that being the common market and all that? no wonder its all a multiplicity of one cockup after another, and all the concentration is on the Pound Vs the Euro so just where in this charade does the human rights stand? way down the list, until something like this happens, then to advertise the EU as the great saviour, sooner we are out the better. my life has been spent up to half time, fighting them, and the rest being told to embrace them, I am English born and bred, and sick and tired of seeing my Country put up for auction, and sold off to to Johnie Foreigner, and the highest bid, Good men have fought and died to save this country, and our way of life, for it to be given away, and have to work for the payouts given away to the opportunist economic migrants, little wonder we are paddle less up the famous creek.

^^ Whilst I agree with almost everything you have said there J what on earth does it have to do with the Megan Stammers subject, apart from one very tenuous mention at the start ?

I was trying to make the point the EU takes a different view on this sad affair, to us in the UK, we cant even agree on if this was right or wrong, in France the age of consent is 15, here it is 16, so where is the common market stand on this? Why did the French go tits up on this, I personally have no interest in the why or where for in this case, but as a union we should at least agree on some things, this particular story is a good one for hiding behind, diverting attention away from the more serious concerns of Europe, you can bet the French thought hard and deep about this, before entering, the poor girl entered as a willing partner, no force, or kidnap, she was where she wanted to be, a free choice, British law says she is a child and did not know where she wanted to be, her parents who have passed the bloom of youth, decided she did not want to be there, if she was French it would have been all OK, this all adds to my point why ? then ask yourself was home life so great she could not get away quick enough, there are always two sides to consider.

nowadays at 15 you are not like a 12 year old as thought of back in the 80s, every body has grown up since then apart from the stiff shirts in whitehall, the Country depends on todays youth as tomorrows government ;) ;)
oh and them without sin cast the first stone :o :o
