Dear FairFuelUK Supporter,
Our battle to see off the August 3p per litre (16p a gallon) rise in petrol/diesel tax that was just waved through in the Budget has started! We received great coverage in The Sun (read by 7.5m) about our damming initial survey findings – you can see it here...

Over the coming weeks we’ll be asking you to help by contacting your own MP. But right now, we are asking you for some very simple help. The FairFuelUK community now numbers over 251,000 concerned citizens and business owners across the country – but to make an even bigger impact in the minds of our MPs we need even more people behind us. We can’t afford to use press and TV advertising to reach new people, so that’s why we are asking for your help.

If you are at home now, why not ask other family members to sign up?
If you are at work, how about your office or factory colleagues?
If you are a member of a local organisation or club, how about asking the other members?
If you run a business, could you ask your staff to sign up?
If each supporter spreads the word to just a few others, the overall effect can be amazing.
Why not ask them by word of mouth or perhaps forward this email?
The sign up page link to back the campaign is at www.fairfueluk.com

We know that sometimes people feel a little awkward about passing on requests such as this. However, we know from experience that anyone who cares about the cost of petrol & diesel almost always welcomes finding out about FairFuelUK. If we can drive our community up towards 500,000 supporters in advance of all the campaigning and lobbying we are doing in the next few weeks in Parliament we will have an even greater chance of seeing off that 16p a gallon tax hike.

As ever, thanks so much for your support………

Kind regards,

Quentin Willson, Peter Carroll, Lynne Beaumont and Howard Cox
FairFuelUK Campaign Team

High duty (and the VAT element) on road fuels helps goes to pay the UK's welfare bill and for other public spending....

I am all for a cut but in order to balance the books what could we remove from the expenditure side to fund it?

I see one of these sorts of emails every week and while the intentions are good the writers should consider the whole dynamic...

Cut all foreign aid and similar payments.

Tell brussels to go whistle until we have sorted our finances out.

Make the UK less attractive to the jungle dwellers over in Calais that try and hitch a lift on any available lorry by stopping auto hand-outs.

Scrap the Green agenda. Wind turbines, carbon taxes, solar panel feed-in tariffs – and those artificially high fuel prices, are significantly contributing to the need to enlarge the 'benefits budget'. And of course, an IN/OUT referendum on the EU would eventually result in massive expenditure savings once we were rid of the interference from Brussels.

Couple of great answers there....... I agree with the sentiment displayed.....

Now who can I vote for who would do all these things?

See the dilemma?

Sorry to have to say it but we need a Sterling crisis of never before seen proportions to shock the electorate to rid us of these 3 so called mainstream parties forever....

Worked out the other day that if you're a higher rate taxpayer, as increasing numbers of ordinary people are, you have to earn about £125 to pay for fuel worth £25. £100 goes in income tax, fuel duty and VAT.

For standard rate taxpayers it's not much better. This is just a back of an envelope calculation and I'm not brilliant at maths.. maybe one of you engineers out there could do a more accurate one.

And of course the fuel itself isn't really worth £25 - the petrol companies are ripping us off to begin with.

This article in today's Telegraph
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politic ... qus_thread

Asks the Question: Queen's Speech: why was there no plan for growth?

Below is one reader's comments to the article. Of course, I have no way of verifying his/her figures, but I strongly suspect there must be some truth in what is being said. Even if the electricity price increase is only half that stated, it would still be a disaster for any business, and the UK economy.

Improving the economy? Who gets the improvement.
I have just had a call today from the machine shop that  makes most of our parts for the equipment we build and sell for export.
Their electricity price is being forced up by 58.9%.. Strangely it takes power to machine metal. That is a serious increase in a major production overhead. Most  of it driven by their lunatic wind power subsidies.
So how can we do our bit to help improve the economy when this sort of thing is going on?
Just one more illustration of the total lack of understanding which is why the speech contains not one constructive word  when it comes to real economy improvement.

CARBON TAX
China today ............
Some hard facts on China
China has 19% of the world’s population, but consumes
53% of the world's cement
48% of the world's iron ore
47% of the world's coal
and the majority of just about every other major commodity.
In 2010, China produced 11 times more steel than the United States ..
New World Record: China made and sold 18 million vehicles in 2010.
There are more pigs in China than in the next 43 pork producing nations combined.
China currently has the world’s fastest train and the world’s largest high-speed rail network.
China is currently the number one producer in the world of wind and solar power. But don’t use it themselves. While they manufacture 80% of the world’s solar panels,
They install less than 5% and,
build a new coal fired power station every week. In 1 year they
turn on more new coal powered electricity than Australia 's total output.
China currently controls more than 90% of the total global supply of rare earth elements.
In the past 15 years, China has moved from 14th place to 2nd place
in the world in published scientific research articles.
China now possesses the fastest supercomputer on the entire globe.
At the end of March 2011, China accumulated US$3.04 trillion
in foreign currency reserves - the largest stockpile on the entire globe.
Chinese consume 50,000 cigarettes every second …
They are already the largest carbon dioxide emitter and their output will rise 70% by 2020
So we're saving the planet, are we LITTLE vegemites????
WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS ; YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING,
YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME, AND OURS, IT WILL NOT
MAKE ONE IOTA OF DIFFERENCE WHAT WE DO IN ENGLAND
AUSTRALIA, CANADA OR ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER ALL
YOU ARE DOING IS INCREASING OUR COST OF LIVING, MAKING OUR MANUFACTURERS UNCOMPETITIVE IN THE WORLD MARKET, WITH YOUR IDIOTIC CARBON TAX, WHEN COUNTRIES LIKE CHINA ARE GROWING AND CONSUMING AT THESE EXTRAORDINARY RATES!
AT OUR EXPENSE
WAKE UP!!!!!
