Is it just me or is any else sick to death of all the Titanic stuff that is around at the moment.

Yes, it was a terrible tragedy, but it seems to have been commercialised by Hollywood and the media over the years and now 100 years on, it seems there's still ca$h to be made. Meanwhile umpteen similar tragedies (including unspeakable disasters in the Atlantic during WWII) are hardly remembered.

Perhaps the most sickening parts of this centenary commemoration is the sight of people getting drunk at a party on the 'Titanic' recreation cruise (BBC sending live reports) and a report I read (if true) that a greengrocer was offering a 'Titanic Commemoration Special' - a discount on Iceburg lettuces. Sick innit!?

I am fed up with it too but I've got a neat button on my TV remote ............

The 100th anniversary is today so hopefully the fuss will all die down now.

Maybe a service in Belfast, Southampton and or Queenstown (as happened this morning in at least one of these places) would have been appropriate but as you say the other stuff is overkill.

Fred Olson cruise line is the owner of the ship being used and it appears seem to be getting plenty of publicity courtesy of the public funded BBC. I also suspect places on this cruise were not cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

They say a lot of people aboard are relatives of those lost in 1912, they must have been very close!!!!

It's the same here in North America, every news channel, every other program. It's OVER THE TOP

I personally am with Andrew Marr on this one:

"We have had films, mini-series, cruises, pop-out magazines. We've been treating this like a national celebration. Are we going to be doing this for fatal air-crashes in future? I think it has been sordid, tasteless and very dull and I hope that after today we hear nothing more about this sad story except from the driest of the dry historians."

Edit to add...

Don't you just love the 'yoof' of today....

And all of them will probably have the vote by the next GE. Maybe some of them will even be standing for election to become an MP by then.

From the language some of them are using, recent history isn't their only deficiency. Thirteen years of education, education, education; really shows. And none of this has anything to do with the schools, teachers, politicians, or the parents.
