http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... cracy.html The treachery was fully understood by government: Quote: Britain's membership of the European Community presented a “gross infringement of sovereignty” and a “serious attack on Parliamentary democracy,” Cabinet ministers warned ahead of the only referendum on Brussels given to the public, newly uncovered papers reveal. Harold Wilson, then the Labour Prime Minister, was told choosing to stay in Europe would represent a “dismemberment of the authority of the House of Commons”, minutes of a Cabinet meeting show. In a meeting three months before the 1975 referendum, Mr Wilson was urged by his ministers to inform the British people that membership would seriously compromise Britain’s ability to govern itself. Cameron is as untrustworthy as Wislon: Quote: Business for Britain, the campaigning group which uncovered the minutes, said the episode was a warning that the public could be misled again as David Cameron embarks on a renegotiation of Britain’s EU membership, ahead of an in-out vote in 2017. Party before the people; nothing changes: Quote: The European referendum in 1975 was a bid by Harold Wilson to hold together his party which was deeply split over membership of the European Community.

I know of the published risks but I'm an 'out' person. I'm sure we can successfully pull out and still trade with other countries. |

The so called re-negotiation is a sham as pointed out in other threads. Simply a delaying tactic to get us past the next tranche of QMV. Only a radical shift in the political sphere in Westminster now will solve this. |

The big question is why why why has every government since the second world war set out to destroy the UK as a free and civilised, independent, prosperous and powerful Christian nation? |

If the EU can claim one success then it is that it has kept Britain, Germany and France from each others throats for the last 50 years..... The circumstances as to what caused those wars where empire building and trade imbalance between the named nations. As a trading bloc (which to a certain degree does away with one of the main reasons we went to war with each other) it probably cannot be faulted. Politicians as they are could not leave alone though and have morphed it into something which was unrecognisable back in Wilsons day. It is a bit disingenuous to claim Wilson knew how all this would turn out in 2014 clearly he did not. It is also misleading to claim he knew and sanctioned loss of power to the the centre of the bloc. To bring about the trading bloc it would have been necessary to centralise some powers. Back then there was no mystery or underlying plot, all that came later because we the electorate allowed it to. I am sure if there was a Delors (with a grand plan) back in Wilsons day the referendum campaign would have reflected this and may have brought about a different result. Thatcher saw the 'change of directions' and warned us against it but the problem was a majority of her ministers by that time were pro EU. Once she was 'swept aside' and lets not beat about the bush here she was removed (the pro EU lobby will say for the greater good) then the transition to change in the EU became much clearer, certainly easier. If Thatcher had held on then we would not have signed Mastricht, she is on record as saying as much in the Lords. Mastricht was the enabling treaty which brought about much closer union. She called the treaty a recipe for national suicide. Whilst I am sure the central block would have still gone on and adopted the Euro with no UK signature on Mastricht the whole kaboodle would have gone in a different direction... Going back to the horrors of War and the reflections we are currently undergoing (and for the next 4 years) 100 years on from WW1 then if it has kept us from that it is not to be sniffed at or dismissed out of hand. After all the previous 100 years of Euro history suggest that war between the big Euro nations is more common than it is not. |

I don't credit the EU with keeping the peace at all. |

Jon wrote: The big question is why why why has every government since the second world war set out to destroy the UK as a free and civilised, independent, prosperous and powerful Christian nation? Jon, I think the clue to the answer to your question is in your word “Christian”. Since WWII every government has been working towards the New World Order; and that “Order” is anti-Christian to the core. The NWO represents the exaltation of man to the supreme being; man is, or has to, become his own god. Biblical Christianity diametrically opposes everything the NWO stands for and aspires to. And so everything that can be done, must be done, to disadvantage and remove all Christian influence from hindering the advancement and cause of the NWO. Even a casual glance at the daily news reports will confirm that Biblical Christianity has become the despised target for every political philosophy and every aspect of officialdom. Political correctness, with its associated and twisted form of 'tolerance' for all things anti-Christian is the less-than-subtle tool that is being used to 'destroy' us. |

I agree, in fact I believe it's more likely to start a new war, just look at it's attempts to bring Ukraine into the EU, it deposed a democratically elected pro-Russian President because it thought he was too anti-EU. It's a bit like Nazi Germany, it's got expansion on it's mind, just look at the number of new countries that have joined in recent years, even Turkey is being sized up! In my view the bigger it gets the more fascist it becomes. |

In my view the bigger it gets the more fascist it becomes. Expansionism is part of the new agenda. I don't disagree with anything you have said here but taking the EU back to it's original purpose and to what it was envisaged to become 'The Common Market' was the ideal, it was that which kept the peace. Nothing wrong with the original idea just what it has morphed into...... |
