Is our Cliff as squeaky clean as he'd like us all to believe or has he an unknown darker side? After Rolf Harris I just don't know what to believe, all the firm assumptions made in the past about these celebs seem, in some cases, to have been built on a carefully constructed public image that hid perverted inclinations. Quote: Tennis fan Sir Cliff Richard 'to miss annual trip to US Open as he returns to Britain' to face underage sex assault quiz by police Singer could be barred from travelling to New York by US border officials The 73-year-old visits the city for the tournament every year US Embassy look at visa applications on a 'case-by-case' basis Faces allegation relating to an underage boy in the 1980s, police say Alleged abuse is claimed to have taken place at a Sheffield stadium in 1985 Pictures show Sir Cliff singing at event - but he furiously denies 'false' attack Police officers have searched his £3.1m home in Sunningdale, Berkshire Singer at his holiday home in Portugal's Algarve region but will return to UK http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... trong.html |

Here we go again, trial by media and worst still, the largely unregulated social media Armchair experts establishing 'facts' from unverifiable sources and making all sorts of decision based on prejudice and guesswork. Just coz its on the web does not mean its true. I am happy to leave it to the relevant authorities who work under PACE and other measures aimed at providing fair justice rather than join the e-mob law which is the scourge of the net. |

Funny how there is a steady drip feed of these celebrity cases…. Anyone heard anything more recently about the Tory MP / Establishment abuse case from the 1980’s…. No? Thought not.. couple more of these celebrity cases and the Elm Lodge Guest House will be long forgotten. The thing stinks to high heaven, First South Yorks police deny tipping off the BBC then they admit it 'in the interests of protecting their source'? Richard is being set up and they are using the media to declare him guilty long before this will get anywhere near a criminal court. Funny how plod haven't been round to search Leon Brittans house or any other of the high level politico's named in the Elm Tree report!! As usual Annaracoon nails it.. http://annaraccoon.com/2014/08/15/cliff-hanging/ |

Back in the 80s, a freelance photographer I knew who did lots of work for the nationals and was the person who broke the David Mellor story told me the biggie that everyone wanted was any dirt on Cliff. He said picture desks had made it clear that you could practically write your own check if you could find dirt on Cliff. With that kind of incentive around for years, it seems inconceivable to me that Cliff could have kept any scandal a secret for so long. |

Lots of rumours he is gay but his wiki page contains details about a few female romantic liaisons he has had down the years. Nearly married twice one of the women being Sue Barker from the BBC. It was her which fired up his interests in Tennis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Richard He no longer holds British citizenship and is now a nationalised Barbados passport holder. Barbados does not have an extradition treaty with the UK although of course with him currently being in Portugal the EU arrest warrant would apply if they wanted it to. If he bolts to Barbados you can be sure the press will make much of it. But on the other hand with the judges direction in the Rolf Harris trial it is debatable if charged if he could get a fair trial. As for the so called calls the police say they have had since the BBC propagandised the search of his house all of these can be discounted as compo seekers. Richard is not short of a few bob you know and is ripe for exploiting.. |

Firstly, may the media long be unregulated except for its need to operate within the law. We have strong libel laws if celebs wish to use them. It's interesting how 'the authorities' are now allowing people to 'white-wash' their pasts so that they don't show up on internet search engines, I bet some celebs rushed to do just that when they heard the news! Secondly, leaving the work of uncovering child sexual abuse (quote) 'to the relevant authorities' doesn't fill me with confidence. It was only when the media brought up the Savile case that the scale of his abuse started to appear - left to the authorities I reckon it, and many other cases, would have been left on the shelf covered up for eternity. It's interesting how the authorities don't seem to be pursuing Leon Brittan and Greville (Lord) Janner with the same vigour as Cliff Richard, apparently Janner is old and in bad health - as though that puts him above the law! I say let the media do what the media does best in our 'controlled' society, let it look in dark corners and shine a light on perversion, corruption and scandal, I for one, have no problem with that. We need more openness and transparency not less which is what the establishment wants. Would we have had the MP expenses scandal without the media? NO. Our only hope of finding out what is going wrong in our society is through a free media, we cannot count on the Police, Parliament, the Government or any other branch of the establishment, they simply want the corruption of power to be kept hidden. |

Fair to point out of course that South Yorkshire Police come with some history.... They are known to investigate all claims of wrongdoing equally are they not? If it turns out it wasn't Cliff Richard no doubt there are some Liverpool fc fans they can fit up in place of. |

The libel laws are there for everyone but it is probably only the rich celebs who can afford to use them. Because of people not being believed in the past when they had complaints to make, the damage has been done, in a way, because members of the public who may know something will not take the risk of coming forward and not being believed again or on the first time complaint. They could also be afraid of other negative consequences. It must be quite frustrating for the authorities now if they need help from the public when trying to seek justice. |

If they were to remove the compensation avenue currently open to complainers then is would eradicate overnight the spurious allegations. All allegations could then be investigated as potentially true without any agenda lurking in the background. |
