The Government is paying to increase it's own welfare bill with Housing Benefit. The fact the benefit exists empowers Landlords to buy up ever more properties pushing up prices and very often pricing out workers who would otherwise but these properties. This then puts pressure on rents which increase in line. Housing benefit then has to be paid to enable poorly paid persons to live there to meet the rent and so it goes on. This Government is for a rentier society. Another example this morning when Pickles was on about renting out driveways. |

There is no doubt in my mind that generous levels of housing benefit have fuelled rental inflation. |
