Since the 70s, environmentalists have been scaring us with talk of "the oil running out". I think it was supposed to have all been gone by the Year 2000. EVERY YEAR there are MORE known oil reserves than the year before. Here's a startling fact I just read in the New York Times, based on a report from a global think-tank: Since the start of the Industrial Revolution, the world has consumed an estimated 1.2 trillion barrels of oil. Calculations of today’s economic reserves—those that are technologically recoverable at current prices—are on the order of 6.5 trillion barrels. However, experience suggests that the share of recoverable oil grows as economic conditions and technological innovation change. http://carnegieendowment.org/2013/06/19 ... nowns/gb25 As I've said many, many times, the world is AWASH with oil and there is no excuse whatsoever for sky-high prices. One of the reasons for the great global warming scam is the fact that the eco-loons can longer pretend the oil's about to run out so they had to come up with some other reason for trying to stop the world benefitting from it. Sadly, even the New York Times article was along the lines of "we've got so much oil, but should we use it given global warming". I must just add that all the scares about water running out and food running out are as baseless as the all other eco-scares. There were TWO alarmist programmes on Radio 4 yesterday, suggesting the growth in global population means we're all doomed on this overcrowded planet. This is TOTAL TOSH. There is room enough and water enough for everyone. And no shortage whatsoever of land on which to grow food. Politics is the problem. |

You don't spot a tiny flaw in your statement then? One word explains the problem exponential. If there is plenty of land to build why are many thousands of people living in sheds in the locality then? Yes politics and protection of the green belt. As to oil we now have to measure the EROI (energy return on energy invested). The easy to get stuff has been depleted. They don't even know yet if it is worth the effort recovering all this shale stuff under our feet. |

No, no flaw at all. Till now you might say the world has been massively underpopulated. It can very easily accommodate substantial population growth. |

All over or only in certain parts? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ation.html Quote: West African famine that is threatening 23million with starvation I don't mean to be pedantic but massive population growth requires serious innovation in being able to provide the foodstuffs to feed them. This African situation aside I assume you are in favour of the pesticides and the advances in agriculture which since the end of WW2 has allowed the World population to grow to where it is. Of course the next natural step is GM and that will be along in due course, it has to be if we are to continue to feed the mouths we have and those to come. And how about the UK should we throw open the borders and allow all and sundry in simply because we have massive space for them? |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23156854 Quote: The price of US light crude oil has risen above $100 a barrel for the first time since September 2012 on concerns over political turmoil in Egypt. US light crude rose more than 2% to $101.80 a barrel in Asia trade. Brent crude also rose 1% to 105.20 a barrel. Stand by for the prices at the pump to rocket..... If it all goes Pete Tong in Egypt and the Suez canal is closed stand by for an oil shock.. We need to watch Egypt very closely. |

I'm afraid famine in Africa has nothing to do with overpopulation. And oil prices have nothing to do with oil availability but everything to do with profiteering. The main point is that thanks to decades of propaganda, 99% of people think "the oil is running out". Nothing could be further from the truth. |

Cheap oil is running out. Producers are having to spend more to get it up. Are there not too many people in parts of Africa for the available food supply then? You said in post 3 >> Quote: Till now you might say the world has been massively underpopulated. It can very easily accommodate substantial population growth. Either there is enough food to go around for the existing population or there isn't, which is it.. |

The things that are in short supply are political honesty, integrity, and downright common sense. They have been replaced with myth, deceit, lies, and New World Order propaganda, which also forms part and parcel of all three LibLabCon parties these days. Energy, food, and water shortages are politically engineered. We can readily see this for ourselves in the UK. Where the deliberate political failure to provide sufficient electricity generation, gas storage facilities, and a reliable water supply, are creating unnecessary shortages and double digit energy price rises annually. With water charges also being increased at about 4 times the official annual inflation rate. Shortages in home-grown food are being politically encouraged by UK farmers being forced out of business through fraudulent and unnecessary 'save the planet' legislation. As are manufacturing industries; they too are being crippled by Agenda 21 linked legislation that adds cost and high energy prices to any business. The political decisions by successive governments to refuse to control immigration also adds to the shortage in supply of essential utilities and raises the pressure for ever-more price rises. Here are a couple of questions that are crying out for political answers: 1. When the UK's electricity, gas, and water supplies were privatised to foreign owners; why were the foreign buyers not required by law to invest and properly maintain sufficient supply capacity to meet the needs of a first-world industrialised nation with a growing population? 2. Why have foreign owners been permitted to take ever-growing profits from previously taxpayer funded utility infrastructure, whilst failing to invest in new plant and capacity? The answers must be that UK politicians representing the LibLabCon Party are working to an agenda that does not support the well-being of the indigenous UK population, but are working for the benefit of a New World Order behind-the-scenes elite. |

It's just so hard to shake off all the lies we've always been told. I remember being given the impression at school that we were ruining the world by cutting down too many trees to make paper. Such rubbish, nothing could be more "sustainable" than trees, and many years later I learnt of course that paper mills plant their own forests. I was lied to. All the scare stories about oil are false. We just keep finding more and more and more of it and it can be extracted more cheaply than ever thanks to decades of experience and advances in technology. Only a tiny fraction of the earth's surface is actually populated. Only a tiny fraction of what can be used for food production is used for food production. And we live on a planet with an abundance of energy and water. Human activity no match for the forces of nature and even the worst man made disasters have surprisingly transient effects; nature quickly papers over them. The big factors in famine are natural disasters, and human error in all its forms (including things such as war, dictatorship, corruption, ineptitude and backward societies). |
