On a final note lets home this story is still developing and there are more to come!!

It would be very dramatic if it was British special forces at work in the shadows, but lets not forget that various dissident republican groups have splintered away from the IRA in recent years (and continue to do so) and there are real tensions between some of these DR groups.

I doubt any James Bond or SAS type operation was at work here, that's not to say that some secret UK agency was not involved winding these groups up against each other to disrupt their operations

Almost certainly the outcome of some internecine criminal / dissident Republican dispute, these people are the margins of the margins and not worth gloating or worrying about, as egregious as the past actions of Irish Republicans are, they are self interested, Nationalists whose ultimate goal is to get their territories back, which is an honorable thing as long as it's done peacefully and democratically, those disgusting, inbred Loyalist hicks that were rioting last week are no better if that's what you were implying OP.

I shall console myself that McKenna died with the thought that he died incompetently pursuing his tribe's most ancient tradition - nicking the lead off a school roof.

I hope he lay there in the schoolyard, in pain, for f#ckin' hours, before anybody noticed he was hurt.

The so called loyalist behaviour does leave a hell of a lot to be desired but I keep a special place in my heart for Republican terrorists.

These were the same people who were trying to kill me and friends of mine when we were about the Queens business in Ulster so feck them they deserve everything which is coming to them.

I shall put a few beers in the fridge in the hope these are not isolated deaths and that McGuinness and Adams will soon be front page news.

I can see what you mean, these people were trying to kill you after all ! From what I've read about the NI conflict it was a big can of worms, you had Touts and Informers from all parties mixed up in each other's business, secret channels between the PIRA and Whitehall all along, Sectarian scumbags killing ordinary Joe Soaps just because they were walking down the street in a Catholic part of Belfast, then there was that Stakeknife character who was a British informer at the highest levels of the IRA, my impression of the present day scenario is that it's been wound down to an manageable level of periodic riots and occasional bits of dissident activity which the authorities seem to have a handle on, far better for NI and the UK than it was in the 70's or 80's, Dublin doesn't really want them and London considers them a backwater so better for all concerned if they just get along with life.

Maybe a reason has emerged why now....
