Quote:
The former head of MI5 Dame Stella Rimington has called for British people to inform security services if they suspect their neighbours maybe extremists.
Quote:
Dame Stella said security services had to prioritise the most dangerous threats because ‘thousands’ of people were being radicalised in Britain. She said further terror attacks on the UK were inevitable unless the country became a ‘police state’.
Dame Stella Rimington suggests that Britain should become a police state in order prevent terror attacks.
Successive UK governments have deliberately engineered the current situation where open national borders and 'home-grown' and foreign terrorists are free to terrorise the British public under the protection of human rights legislation. Now a former head of MI5 is publicly saying that only a British police state is capable of controlling radicalised home-grown terrorists.

It is unimaginable that Dame Stella Rimington was not aware of what was being done to Britain by the politicians during her time as head of MI5.

Peter Mandelson recently admitted Labour sent out search parties to encourage a huge increase in immigration into Britain. For Dame Stella Rimington to now claim that a police state is the answer to terrorism must be confirmation that successive British governments have been working towards a police state for several decades.

When we recognise the control systems that have been put in place to control our every move, speech and thought; such as almost blanket CCTV - with microphones, Oyster cards, secret courts, universal tracking of all financial transactions, ANPR cameras, restrictions on the amount of cash we can legally carry, the legal system re-jigged in favour of criminals, dictatorial powers given to local authorities and virtually every public agency. The evidence becomes overwhelming, a British police state has been the political aim for many decades.

And like lemmings, we continue to vote for the LibLabCon.

The swing to UKIP is starting to change the landscape.

Cameron thinks this is down to his weak policy on the EU but it goes far deeper than that. It is to do with the whole immigration policy mainly of Labour in the years 97 - 2010. The attack we saw last week can be pretty much laid at the door of the failure of this policy and the fact all parties whilst banging on about the benefits of multiculturalism did nothing to persuade minority communities integrating to the British way of life.

There is now a real sense in the Country that there is a 2 tier judicial system and one which favours these minorities...

One thing is for sure. The next decade is not going to be remotely like the last.

I really do not think that any Govt has been 'working towards' a Police state. That implies a sort of joined up thinking over the longer term and across parties which UK politics is totally incapable of. I am more suspicious that the DM have lifted the words 'Police state' from Dame Stella's quote, without supplying the context in which she said it.

Mi5 have made it known for many years that they can only carry out intensive surveillance on a limited number of people at any one time. As a result, they prioritise who they keep a regular eye on. It requires scores of staff to carry out 24/7 surveillance and with reportedly thousands of people 'known' to them, is it feasible to keep tabs on every one all day and night? Of course not.

As for the anger some people have expressed at them trying to recruit one of the murder suspects, well how on earth do you think they get much of their information? The truth is that he would not have become a member of staff as some media are reporting. He would have been a CHIS - covert human intelligence source - an informant/grass. When you are looking for scum, sometimes you have to mix with them

I am not naive. I know we are often fed a great deal of nonsense & mis-information by HMG. But we simply have to let the intelligence service get on with their job and trust the ISC (made up of MPs) to carry out their scrutinty effectively. This is one area where openness cannot be permitted

Isn't it time we openly admitted that the Islamification of Europe, including the UK, is underway, and certain Moslem elements within Islam will continue to wage war on us until they achieve their objectives, an Islamic State.

There was once a time when folk were proud to be English, Welsh, or Scottish, hence Great Britain, now we must dumb down and be Europeans, the next thing will be various faiths will be boiled down to religious or atheist, black or white, a Police state would ensure we would all conform, is this the way we are heading ??? :o :(

Just to clarify the title of this thread, The Telegraph reported Dame Stella's speech slightly differently that the DM as they say that

"She made the plea as she warned that MI5 could not be expected to spot every danger and that further attacks were likely unless Britain wanted a “Stasi” state where everyone was monitored. "

That's a whole different spin on the DM's version that she wanted a Police state

Which paper is right? God knows, but it shows IMHO that the media often act like petrol when added to a small fire and seek controversy in every story. Another angle on this of course is that Dame Stella was making the speech at the Hay festival where she was launch a new book. She is an intelligent woman and would know exactly how to court publicity by the content of this speech.

So I still maintain there is no evidence of a plan - however weak- to introduce a Police state. There may well need to be stricter controls, as the European Intelligence boss was recently quoted as saying there are hundreds of European nationals fighting in Syria and at risk of bringing heir newly acquired radicalised skills home with them. This appears to be what has happened in the Rigby murder case, as at least one of the murderers was fighting in Somalia after receiving training and passage through Kenya.

My fear is that these highly trained and brainwashed radicalised Muslims will see the publicity this case has achieved with very little planning & resources (therefore difficult to detect by Mi5 and others) compared with a 7/7 type spectacular.

I have said for years that its the Mumbai style 'simple' attacks (where several gunmen attacked a Hotel and rail station killing 166 people) is far more likely in the future. I am aware of a huge Police exercise at Hendon a couple of years ago which followed changes in rules of engagement for armed officers aimed at dealing with this new threat.

The Mumbai was relatively simple as access to arms in that part of the world is easy. Pakistan and Afghan are flooded with AK47's which I think was the weapon of choice of these terrorists. Whilst India may have stricter border controls there are still pretty porous. In any event these terrorists landed from the sea if I recall correctly.

Yes a small group armed with automatic weapons could cause many hundreds of death's if they attacked somewhere like Kings Cross station in rush hour or Oxford Street at mid-day but Britain is still an Island and this is our best defence. Terrorists would not be able to acquire arms in the UK without triggering some MI5 radars nor would they easily smuggle them past border controls.

SOT, I agree that the media does appear to, as you say “poor petrol on the fire”. I suspect the media is to a large degree involved in conditioning the public's mindset. A frightened people are an easily manipulated people; like sheep we can easily be led to go where we don't naturally want to go.

There are sufficient question marks over the integrity and behaviour of the media to cause many of us to distrust the media. The Levenson Inquiry supposedly took place because of the actions of certain parties in the media. The recommendations of that inquiry appear to support the strangling of press-freedom, a necessary action if a police state is in the planning.

Of course, the political elite are never going to admit there is a plan to construct a police state. And the media are unlikely to reveal any really dark goings on behind closed political doors. Next week's annual Bilderberg gathering (that appears like it will be at the Grove Hotel in Watford) is extremely unlikely to be reporting actual discussions and agreements taking place in secret. Will George Osborne, David Cameron, Ken Clarke, Ed Balls, or Ed Miliband be making any public announcements as to what is happening behind closed and secretive Bilderberg doors next week? From past events, it is very unlikely that any of them will even admit to attending the Bilderberger meetings.

We do know that the political elite do lie to us. The whole of the 'save the planet' agenda is positive proof of the deceit and lies that the politicians and their media friends are capable of. As an example, the BBC can't mention wild-life, or any aspect of nature without mention global warming/climate change – even though it would appear that global cooling is actually taking place. Another major evidence of political deceit and lying is membership of the Common Market, now the ever-closer political union of the undemocratic EU.

So where do dishonest politicians and a suspect media leave the public when it comes to understanding what is actually going on behind closed door? Clearly, we have to make our assessments on what we see happening, not on what is being said or reported.

Since the Woolwich murder Theresa May is again calling for the introduction of her 'snoopers charter' in order to supposedly combat terrorism. Her 'snoopers charter' would mean the government monitoring all internet and email traffic – a powerful and essential tool of a police state.

In the past there have been stories of local authorities covertly spying on innocent people in order to 'verify' whether the parents have a right to send their child to a particular school. Now Dame Steller Rimington is openly recommending that we all spy on our neighbours and report them to the authorities for any suspicions we may have – that comes straight out of Nazi and Stasis operation manuals.

Now we learn that the police and local authorities are into drone aircraft, so they can monitor us ever more closely. We all have to be very careful we don't use politically incorrect language, otherwise we can expect to receive the 3:00 am early morning call from the police smashing down the front door.

This is very much feeling like a police state - and the duck test supports the probability of an emerging police state.
