There must be many who think along those lines, I think it shows up the bullsh*t of the US/UK 'special relationship that the new world power, the U.S earmarked Germany to be the economic and industrial powerhouse of Europe.
The U.K sent a delegation to Washington after the war and they were literally made to beg on their knees for post war reconstruction loans, Uncle Sam wasn't going to give it to them.
