I'm just off to lay down in a darkened room after reading all these posts. For a start Jane you're only a year older than my daughter! And everyone else isn't far off! Such a depressing subject!

Article Date March 2000

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/snowfalls-are-now-just-a-thing-of-the-past-724017.html

Quote:
The first two months of 2000 were virtually free of significant snowfall in much of lowland Britain, and December brought only moderate snowfall in the South-east. It is the continuation of a trend that has been increasingly visible in the past 15 years: in the south of England, for instance, from 1970 to 1995 snow and sleet fell for an average of 3.7 days, while from 1988 to 1995 the average was 0.7 days. London's last substantial snowfall was in February 1991.

Global warming, the heating of the atmosphere by increased amounts of industrial gases, is now accepted as a reality by the international community. Average temperatures in Britain were nearly 0.6°C higher in the Nineties than in 1960-90, and it is estimated that they will increase by 0.2C every decade over the coming century. Eight of the 10 hottest years on record occurred in the Nineties.

However, the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become "a very rare and exciting event".

"Children just aren't going to know what snow is," he said.

I highlighted and pasted this very same report months ago in the Weather Forum.

David Bellamy sidelined by the BBC for not 'toeing the line'

I used to admire the BBC as something British and to be proud of. All it is fit for today is to be broken up and the best bits sold to private enterprise and sack all the morons who try and propagandise the message..

BBC=Not fit for purpose.

Wasn't there a newsreader sidelined/demoted for asking pertinent questions on air about climate change?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2266188/David-Bellamy-The-BBC-froze-I-dont-believe-global-warming.html

Quote:
The BBC froze me out because I don't believe in global warming: Outspoken as ever, David Bellamy reveals why you don't see him on TV any more

Conservationist dismissed man-made global warming as 'poppycock' in 2004
BBC 'stopped giving him work' and his career dried up as a result, he says
Campaigners spat at him in street and sent him 'paedophile' hate mail

For supporters of climate change to spit at people and brandish them paedo's is frankly very worrying!! And the BBC support these types?

comments on here make me feel so old.

I was at school and had to travel from Yeading to Northolt Station on the bus. They were all running OK, the school struggled with the heating (it was all solid fuel heating in those days)

We would get home from school, warm up, have our evening meal and go back out to play in the snow - we didn't seem to care. I do remember my sister constantly pinching my gloves though

when they dug up the old tram lines that were set in pine blocks, my dad bought a lot home for fuel on the open fire we had in those days, what he never thought through! over the years when the roads we gritted tiny stones were pressed into the blocks, then once hot would fire out into the room, and I who more often than not would be laying stretched out on the floor in the warmest place with every so often being hit, until he got a close mesh fire guard, that was the 48 winter :) :)

Same as in the mid 90s, when we'd had a few years of below average rainfall, the media were telling us it would never rain properply again, we'd messed up the planet's ecosystem with our fridges and aerosols. Within a couple of years there were torrential downpours and floods everywhere! Eejuts.

Thanks Geezer! I sent the above link to Richard Littlejohn over the weekend; he replied thanking me, and has done something on it in his column in today's Daily Mail. :D
