http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/04/09/margaret-thatcher-was-frighteningly-accurate-when-she-made-this-econ-prediction/

Quote:
Lady Margaret Thatcher was well-known throughout the free world for her fierce conservatism and her opposition to the “Evil Empire,” two noble qualities that separated her from the rest of her U.K. colleagues.

But did you know that she also had some frighteningly accurate economic predictions?

In her two autobiographies, “The Downing Street Years” and “The Path To Power,” she wrote about how she planned to argue against the EMU (Economic and Monetary Union), the Telegraph’s Peter Oborne notes.

In her anti-EMU arguments, as Business Insider’s Joe Weisenthal and Rob Wile point out, Thatcher “outlined the problems with the euro perfectly, that Germany would chafe at the inevitable need for greater inflation, and that the poorer countries would inevitably be uncompetitive and need bailouts that would not easily be forthcoming.”

In short, Thatcher predicted the EU as it exists at this moment.

Here’s the paragraph from “The Path To Power” where she discusses inflation and competitiveness:

Farage in the Euro Parliament a few days ago..

All was foretold by Thatcher 20+ years ago long before monetary union and before she left office.

Stand by your beds UKIP is gathering pace.....

I'm trying to work out whether this thread is pro or anti UKIP ?

I personally think Nigel talks a lot of sense.

One thing certain we need change, away from this system that does not really work, how can 45% of the 40% that bother be lawful, every chance to vote is made available, be it by polling station, post or proxy, some things even on line, the lack of interest should tell them something, said it before we need a benign dictator, then vote them in or out after a fixed term, anything less than 40% no change. :o ? 8-) :? 8-)

Neither pro nor anti.

Whilst UKIP is a lot of things they are not the answer to govern our Country.

But they are putting the willies up the main stream parties and a sizeable protest vote will bring us the referendum we so badly need....

My ideal scenario going forward..

UKIP gathers pace and has a good showing at the council elections next Month. At next year's Euro's they make further inroads and maybe achieve second largest party possibly even first from the UK electorate.
In 2015 neither Labour nor the Tories gain a majority and UKIP secure a handful maybe a couple of dozen of seats. They have the clout to deliver the balance of power and can argue concessions from doing so. The Lib Dems are wiped out and UKIP by and large replaces them as the third power in UK politics.

My belief is a lot of our problems stem from Europe, once we can rid ourselves of this millstone then we can look to putting the Great back into Great Britain.

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jameskirkup/100213458/a-plague-on-both-your-houses-how-ukip-is-worrying-labour-as-well-as-the-conservatives/

Quote:
Talking to various Labour people earlier this week, I was struck by the return of the party’s perennial worry: what to do about the concerns of skilled working-class voters on issues like immigration, crime and welfare.

From the backbenches to the Shadow Cabinet, there are people who worry that Labour under Ed Miliband doesn’t have the same grip on those voters that it did under Tony Blair. Even people who support Ed M, think he’s doing a good job and admire his work on cost-of-living issues privately confess to concerns here.

That sounds perfect to me with UKIP holding the balancing vote.

Could be a half answer, but then whoever teams up with whom, need to have a lot in common, any differences in the two policies, will have to be dropped by one or the other, as any watering down is what we get now, only to see it re-emerge down the line, maybe even two! one from each ! then that becomes a waste as we all know in politics two wrongs do make a right, and while they barter away our hopes or expectations, carry on drawing a large salary, doing just as they please, make no mistake its all about a cross on a ballot paper, the gateway to a nice little earner. :) :)

Because the first rule to get elected, is to tell the people what they want to hear, (wots innit for me) then! once elected throw a few crumbs, then introduce bit by bit what they are going to get, knowing its all safe for a few years, before the next round and starts all over again, in the meanwhile drawing a nice little pot, beware Greeks bearing gifts comes to mind. :( :( :(

How many people realise that a referendum is not part of UKIP policy. They have never promised one.

It is assumed if they are ever elected that the fact they managed this means the majority of Brits want out so it will happen.

Nothing in itself wrong with that.

Indeed.

And Jim, no one could ever accuse Farage of saying things just because people want to hear it.
