I think the simple answer is there just aren't enough parking spaces Geezer. I will say that Hillingdon Council have at least made some attempt by issuing the Hillingdon First card to local residents, allowing cheaper parking options for those of us who live in the borough, but the parking facilities are few and far between.

.

When the card was introduced with a discount, did they not put the standard price up ?. So was it a real discount or just a usual trick to con the people. I buy stuff online and only shops I go to are local ones. As far as I am concerned all parking should be free and the cost should be covered by the stores, after all it is them that benefit from people buyong goods so why dont they pay the parking costs.

All over the country councils have driven people away from town centres with anti car policies. High charges, removing spaces, adding bollards, lines, fines, bus stop build-outs and all the rest of it.

At the same time, long-suffering shopkeepers are hit with eye watering business rates and constant interference from busy bodies trying to get them to comply with endless regulations and fill in pointless forms; those shopkeepers are often also struggling with high rents, unfair competition from massive supermarkets and anti-social behaviour on their own parades.

I wouldn't fancy trying to run a shop, must be a nightmare.

The UN's Agenda 21is the source of all the anti-car policies that are aimed at destroying local commerce - and the high street.

Few local authorities readily confess that the UN's Agenda 21 is the beating heart behind all their 'green' and anti-car policies. Hammersmith and Fulham local authority are one of those rare councils that take some trouble to explain the source of their Local Agenda 21 and the policies that spring from it. This page http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/external/la21/index.htm on the Hammersmith and Fulham website explains that local agenda 21s are rooted in the Rio Earth Summit of 1992.
Quote:
This is what Local Agenda 21 is all about: act local and think global. If all of us acted responsibly locally, global problems would be reduced, if not eliminated. The concept of Local Agenda 21 really began in 1987 at a meeting of world leaders in Norway, where they agreed that the way forward for the planet was to adopt policies of "sustainable development". In other words, the kind of development that meets our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same. This probably seems like simple common sense, but such policies have been far from common in most western European countries. Later, at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992, these ideas were further developed under the term Local Agenda 21, recognising the need to work out local agendas (ways of doing things) for sustainable living into the 21st century. Each country represented was urged to develop an LA21 strategy with the agenda set by the community itself rather than by central or local government, as ownership of any initiatives by society at large is most likely to be successful.

From the top left of the above web page there is this link to “Transport and Air Quality” http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/external/la21/transport.htm where this quote can be found:
Quote:
The curbing of pollution caused by traffic requires radical reassessments of public transport availability in the borough. Car drivers should be encouraged to use alternative transport.
Whilst this quote does not quote chapter and verse of the UN's Agnda 21 (a lengthy and convoluted document), it does indicate that anti-car policies applied locally under a Local Agenda 21 policy are all rooted in the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and the UN's Agenda 21 that was agreed at that summit.

The UN is controlling local authority anti-car and 'green' policies around the globe, whilst each local authority is pretending it is acting locally in the best interests of local tax-paying residents. The whole scam is an undemocratic outrage of gigantic proportions; one that our own governments, of all colours, are party to.
