What an disgusting company.

They sue and get £3.5m, keep it a secret, only pay out circa £350,000 to the devastated parents and then still keep just under £2m after they are caught out.

I do hope they lose all their business.

Their handling of this has been shocking. I think they're trying to emulate Ryanair.

No defence of Thomas Cook but this was simply normal business practice.

Their business insurance would cover a section of loss due to negative publicity ect, their insurers probably sued the Greek hotel chain and paid out whatever the policy wording said.

This in no way affected the compensation claim by the bereaved parents that being an entirely separate issue and no doubt covered by the liability insurance clause in same insurance policy.

Thomas Cook dropped a clanger and should have inspected the accommodation but the real culprit is the Greek hotel chain for allowing what was clearly a defective boiler to be used in holiday accommodation. You can even possibly lay some blame at the Greek Government as the UK has statutory legislation that all commercial gas appliances have to be inspected, safety tested and certified annually. Clearly a very good bit of law when these thing have the potential to kill.
