This news report shows the negelct of river dredging by the Environmental Agency:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weath ... cades.html

Quote:
A spokesman for the FLAG group has got hold of meticulous rainfall records for the area around the [Rivers] Parrett and Tone for the last 20 years.
They reveal between December 1993 and February 1994 around 20 inches of rain fell - five inches less than during the same time this year.
A spokesman for the group said: "So roughly the same rainfall but far more flooding now.
"What has changed? Dredging seems to be the biggest obvious difference between then and now."

As much as i dislike the Government having an enquiry for what seems like anything and everything. But on this occasion I think it is necessary. There is so much research gathered for many decades that will have the reasons for the serious flooding we've seen this winter. We need to understand what role local people had in managing the land in Somerset decades ago and now and what Government policies and agencies have adversely affected this management. Lord Smith has admitted that the dredging and river management budget was cut to ludicrously low amounts and blames Government policy - where is his fight? What other credentials does this Lord have to be in charge of the EA other than being in Government a few years too many. He certainly doesn't have his heart in the job

At one time I would have agreed that a thorough inquiry is required. However, the Levenson Inquiry hasn't does us any favours, and we are still waiting for the Chilcot Inquiry to publish its findings – if it ever will. And it took an truly independent inquiry to uncover the horendous truth behind the Hillsborough disaster.

A judge led inquiry into the flooding of the Somerset Levels is unlikely to uncover the truth. With the EU, the Environment Agency (a UK Government agency), and the widespread influence of the UN's Agenda 2 all involved, it is unlikely that any judge led inquiry would be very successful at uncovering the truth. And now there are stories doing the rounds that the Levels were deliberately flooded in order to make them uninhabitable in preparation for the area to be 'fracked' for gas.

Just goes to show that you cannot forecast the future that far ahead. They should just stick to the next few days or ask Moley
